How much influence on sales did the Transformer movie have?
I have a guy I work with that said the only reason the Camaro has become so popular is because it was shown over and over again in the Transformer movies. His opinion is if the car wasn't in the movie Camaro sales would have never overtaken Mustang sales and GM probably would have discontinued it after 2011.
Do you think the Transformer movies had a major influence on the success our Camaro's sales? Or do you think GM would have sold an equal amount of cars despite the movie? I had decided to order my SS before I even seen the movie so it had nothing to do with me buying one. Did the movie have any influence for you to buy for any of you on the forum? Russ |

It sure as heck didn't hurt. I saw the first one when it first came out and new that the Camaro was in there, but still got chill's when Bumble Bee went away and came back a 5th Gen Concept
That being stated, I was excited about the Camaro before the movies came out, I still would have bought one without it being in Transformers The next part of me says so what if it did, jealous Rustang fans

You were talking to a Ford guy.
There were people in tears when the Camaro was announced. For many it was a punch in the guy to hear it would be discontinued. The movie simply made people who were already waiting on a Camaro cringe with anxiety and excitement just wanting one in there driveway. Of course, when old bee turned into new be, many people (myself included) got cold chills. It's the greatest scene ever in a movie. I am sure it instantly made some people fall in love with the Camaro. BUT, no, the movie is not the reason the 5th gen is so successful. It may have pulled in a few new lovers....but the love and anticipation for the relaunch was already there for the die hards. |

I was pissed when they discontinued the Camaro as I was finally getting to a point where I could buy a new car. I swore when they came out with another one I would buy it as long as it looked and performed good. Thankfully these cars are exactly what I was looking for! I would buy several more if I could afford it.

The movie was the first time I seen the new car and immediately went home and did an internet search and found out that the Camaro was back! (yes yes I had been living under a rock! ) Needless to say it was love at first sight. I know I would have seen it eventually and still fell in love so the movie really was just my first introduction not THE reason I bought the car.

The only reason I went and test drove one was because I saw the movie and thought it was badass lol

I'm sure it did sway some of the people who were too young to drive back when the Camaro was discontinued and were just coming of age when it was re-launched. It probably didn't make a difference for those of us who grew up with the Camaro. The Camaro has been my favorite car since I first started driving back in 1992, so I would have bought one regardless.

When I saw the movie I told my wife I was gonna get me one of those. She knows that if I say it then it's gonna happen. I told her I was going to get me a new Stingray also

Mustang sales also got overtaken in the 90's after high school chicks daddys' started buying them the re-introduced VW bug instead.
