I'm not, and have no desire to own the Z/28, but just wondering if someone is.

Sorry if this question is repost.........
I am keeping my ZL1 but have a Z28 coming. They are two different cars.

If I had to just keep one, it will be the ZL1. It would be better for the street and is faster.

You don't need carbon ceramic brakes to stop the car. I have about $3000 in brake upgrades and less than $2500 in race compound tires and I would bet money I can stop in shorter distances than the stock Z/28....all day long.

As far as just changing the wheels, tires and Pulley and beating a Z28 on the track that is so ridiculous I won't even respond to that lol. If that's all it took Chevy would not have taken the time to make the Z28. You should go read up onto the Z28 since it seems you don't know much about it.
I don't know if you watched that video or just read the hype but it started raining when the car was was on the long uphill straight coming into the finish. It did all but the last 2 corners completely dry. At most the rain cost that run 2 seconds and that is probably very generous. I guarantee you that it is the fastest run GM logged and they logged some other runs that were completely dry.... Hell, if I got hit with one drop of water on my record lap I would tell everyone I had rain also....

The reason GM put so much effort in the Z/28 for the track is because the stock ZL1 has some heat issues that are inherrent with the supercharger and then they just went flat out to cut the weight as well as put some bigger tires on the front of the car to improve braking and cornering. So rather than gut a ZL1, if you can deal with heat, cut some weight and improve cornering a little you should be there.

A lot of people don't ever make any modifications of any kind to their car and I'm fine with that but it is kind of crazy how easy it is to make a few mods from a semi-thriving aftermarket that will just simply blow away the stock cars. I wish I could get Randy Pobst to run a few laps with my car in that Z/28, GTR, and 911 crowd and embarrass the crap out of the new cars.... For now I'll just pass them on the track and and let them say, well yeah, he has got thousands of dollars of upgrades on that thing. It really is not a hard as some think. I promise you my car with mods cost less than the GTR or the Porshe. And the Z/28 would have it's hands completely full with what I could do with the price difference between a used ZL1 and the new Z/28....promise.

Never. $10,000 more and you have a C7 Z06. If I felt I needed a car to beat the crab out of on a track I would get a used C6 ZO6. Maybe not beat the new Z/28 would have just as much fun for half the money.

No chance a C7 Z06 is only 10 k more. I'd love the Z06 however I need 3 seats.

Not interested in losing all those features for the track advantage. As far as price, the convertible zl1 is pretty close to the z28.

Anyway the Z/28 is a 7L with 11.0:1 comp you can make it make more power...however my last car had an LSX454 i was pushing it hard making 620rwhp N/A I wouldn't expect the Z/28 to make much more than that without changing to a different intake/heads combo like mozez from mast.

And as said anyone who actually track races will not leave their car stock, so the Z/28 over will no doubt CNC port his heads, put 2" headers on it and a cam

on the flip side the ZL1 track racer will put some decent tires on the car add some more boost and wave goodbye to the Z/28 when you can make so much more power out of the ZL1 the 230 odd lbs difference isn't going to make much of a difference the Z/28 will be lucky to make 620rwhp where as we know the ZL1 can make much more much easier.

So if you are comparing what real people will actually do modification wise and take to VIR or summit then the ZL1 will beat the Z/28 9 times out of 10.

If the Z/28 owner wants to keep up he would need FI.

And the ZL1 still has air con, comfortable and you can even swap pulleys before you drive home to conserve the blower life and use less gas

dont get me wrong i think the Z/28 is a great car you can learn a few things from it and take it to the track on your ZL1.
It takes a lot more than just horsepower and sticky tires to get around the twisties fast. If all you needed was hp and better tires the new Shelby would blow the ZL1 and Z28 out of the water on a a track with just a new set of wheels and tires, and that's just not the case. There is a lot of high tech equipment on the Z28 that gets it through through the turns faster that the ZL1 does not have. Just the brakes alone make a huge difference and they do not come cheap, as well as other high dollar track oriented features the ZL1 does not have. The gears are also set up for track on the Z28 while they are more set up for drag on the ZL1. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. One thing I'm sure we can agree on is they are both beasts and its a great time to be a Camaro enthusiast!

0.7% of total track time? I don't know about a large margin . . .
That can be ALL driver.

The 75k kills it for me. Nothing the car does makes me want to spend 75k.

I would buy a used Zr1 or GTR if was looking to blow 75k right now. those cars do everthing not just lap well.

everyone tries to minimize strait line speed but I like it TOO. I mean my Zl1 is not stock because i was not happy with that portion of the car.

then again I would be buying the car as a toy not a dedicated track car.

I'm still debating whether to trade mine for the new Stingray! Definitely pass on the Z/28.

Put a deposit on one last week. Base price for 2015 ZO6 is $85,000. Base price for Z/28 is $75,000. The way it will be ordered it will be more than 85 but even a base one will be a nicer car than the Z/28.

I wouldn't sell my ZL1. I'm not a track guy, prefer the straight line acceleration and street cruising. For me the ZL1 is the best car.
