Camaro 2LS for son?

Is the 2012 2Ls a good car for my 16 year old son? He has been eying a black one for a while now.

Thanks

you know your son better than we do, you should be able to make the decision if he is responsible enough for a car like this

2LS still have over 300hp. The base trim level doesn't make the Camaro less powerful. If he is responsible it would be a very nice car to start with.

wow... I wish my dad would of thought of a car like this for my first. I was given a 92 oldsmobile and was still estatic. 300hp is a lot of power for a first car but if you trust your son to treat the car well and respect the power, than go for it.

I have a 17 yo daughter who has been driving about a year. I would not let her drive my 2LT without me with her. I let her drive it on a long trip she and I took, but only on the freeway.

I don't think it is the power that would get her in trouble, but the visibility. I am not talking about the rear quarter visibility for changing lanes, but the visibility over the fenders for parking. I think she would probably hit other cars trying to park. I have been driving over 30 years and I have to be very careful in the parking lot.

Thanks midnighter. He is very responsible as a driver. He has dove my Silverado and he handled it very well.

My kid is 21 (and away at college)...no way he drives it without me in the car!...lol
(One day, when he has a job and isn't hungover like a pile of dead mice, he might drive it alone. lol)

I'm sure its a great car for him...however....16 means high school...be aware it (the car) may experience pranks, vandalism, jealous girlfriends anger, etc. High school parking lots have their own set of problems. My kid drove a beater to high school and loved it. Good luck!

If you guys buy it please post pics. Also please remind your son to not post his age on C5, if he visits, because too many people will bash him just for being young.

Will do. In your opinion, what color is better? Summit white or black?

I had a powerful car when I was 16 and was always safe in it... that means I was lucky!!! I should have killed myself many times, I wouldn't get a 16 year old boy that car!

personal preference. black cars get very hot in the heat. both are tough to keep clean

Though people do bash at ages I have no problem saying ,I got mine at 17, and I am 6'4" no visibility issues? Perfectly Safe car.... Speed can cause problems but I have yet to get into any trouble with the car. If he is responsible enough to have it then sure... but otherwise have a beater first..

The fact is that the younger Camaro Drivers will probably support your decision either way.
