it might be the the whole socal clean thing but i just want a really plain simple nothing special just little subtle mods. i like that i like a car that hides. a car you can just do whatever because it does not stick out. i like my steelies and fat tires i get a very nice ride. next V8 i get is probably going to be a old 90s GM bus with a 350 i want to gut out for weekend camping ive been saving all my cash for that VS stuff for the camaro. |

There's a little saying I've heard from time to time: It's a lot more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. I've only ever owned V6 vehicles (89 Beretta, 01 Camaro, and now my 15 Camaro) and enjoyed all of them. That said, the Beretta was pretty fun to toss around, and it was old so I didn't care about it too much. |

Yup. It’s more fun to take my 350z at 60 through mountain roads than my Camaro in a straight line at 160. |

I had a 6-speed 350Z that was a very fun car to drive. Great shifting gearbox, good power, excellent handling; just a great sports car. It was a terrible road trip car however, even in Touring trim.

Those KLDE motors sounded exotic with a Borla & test pipe

I get where the op is coming from. I think people are maybe focusing on cylinder count as opposed to the high rev of the 3.6.
It’s interesting - like someone mentioned above, my current SS has more power than I have ability, especially on public roads. I had three 4th gens - the 1997 LT1 was pure garbage and the 1999 LS1 was cool but I really had a ball with the 1997 3800 V6 with the Y87 package which I could really wring out on the street. It ONLY had 200 hp which meant you really could use all the car had. It was relatively lightweight and better balanced and IMO rode and handled much better than V8 4th gens. Now with gas prices going through the roof, I’m wondering if a V6 would have been just fine.

I really like the sound and look I have with my Camaro 2LT RS, I think it should have come with the Brembo's and SS supension As part of the RS Package, But i like the fact i can still add it.
So really I think Chevy hit the mark with this Car (5th Gen), Kids call it Bubblebee, (It's not, but i don't correct them) they just love it. I grew up in the 70's when we had the 454's, 440's, & 428's, Tri power Corvettes, 2/4 BBL's, Fuelies. I do know there were more. I remember back then when the small blocks where the Grocery Getters and everybody wanted the BIG MUSCLE cars. So to me yes the V6 of today remindes me of the 302, a High reving small cubic inch powerplant. By all means is it a v8, NO Will it sound like a v8, NO But it is a very good little Engine.(92000 miles and 8 Years Later)

My dad‘s 2000 Buick LeSabre custom has 263,000 on the odometer, and just keeps on rolling. You can’t kill the damn thing. Best GM V6 ever made... not GMs best motor though... because IMHO that title rests with the 5.3.

Edit: Was the 4th generation Camaro part of the recall? "GM recalled 1.5 million vehicles with this engine on April 14, 2009 due to risk of fire from engine oil leaking under the valve cover gaskets onto hot exhaust manifolds. The fire could spread to the nearby plastic spark plug wire retainers on the valve cover and then to the rest of the engine compartment. GM fitted the affected vehicles with redesigned spark plug wire retainers. These engines were noted for having problems with the plastic upper intake manifold cracking around the EGR passage. The engine would then hydrolock. The lower intake gaskets and upper intake manifolds were revised, correcting all these issues." |

The 5th gen V6 isn't even close of a comparison to the 69 z28 302 for one major reason. Weight. That car only weighed 3296lbs. Trying to compare old to new is silly anyhow.

Hah, I took the Beretta down some mountain roads, pretty fast too...at least until I did it with the windows down and realized I was squealing the tires on every turn. I'm lucky I didn't end up at the bottom of a cliff. I don't have anywhere to take the current one (always get stuck behind the slow guy) but it's been fun to take on road trips regardless. |

No, it was the transverse 3800s. The front valve covers could leak under hard braking, onto the exhaust manifold. The f-body one sat differently.
I own a transverse 3800 project car, and my last Camaro was a 98 v6 F-Body. I love the L36 platform.
