New 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Refresh Under way!

According to this article Hyundai was seen recently taking the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a refreshed styled more agressive hood and back end around the Nurburgring in Germany. Many believe the engine will be a 3.8 liter direct injected V6 engine that puts out 333hp another person says they heard a rumor that this car may come out with 350hp though as well. Also they are reporting that a V8 version of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe could be in the works. I really doubt that Hyuindai will make a V8 Genesis Coupe that really really caught me off guard when they made that statement. The car does look more agressive and kind of cool though the pics has it in camo. I never have been a fan of the current Genesis Coupes styling maybe this one can improve it some.

If they stuck the sedan's V8 in that little car they'd sell like free hotcakes on sunday morning.

They need a V8 to have a legit competitor with the 3 American pony cars.

Strange car because it is faster than the V6 Camaro and Mustang but priced as the V8 Camaro and Mustang, which it is slower than.

I like the way they look, they just needed a little more ponies under the hood. I've only seen two on the road and they have been out since '09.

I had a '04 Tiburon V6 and really liked it. I replaced the Hyundai emblems with the Canadian/Korean spec emblems just to confuse the hell out of people. Plus it reduced the stereotype comments.

Believe it or not, insurance for me was cheaper on a 2010 Camaro SS than a 2004 Tiburon GT.

I've never been a huge fan of their designs. hopefully this refresh will make it look better. I know it's fast and all, but it just looks like a girls car like the eclipse. In my opinion Nissan did a better job with the 370z and Infiniti G37. I can envision men driving those cars as well as women.

I know not everybody likes the American future-reto look of the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. So I'm trying to stick with the most direct competition to the Genesis, the other Asian brands...

I personally love the distinctly American styling of the Camaro. So it kind of makes all other coupes in the price range look like a pile of poop in my option. But if the Camaro and Challenger did not exist (and my extension CTS coupe was non-existant). I'd still chose the G37 over the Genesis. Or I'd get a BMW 3-series coupe. I'd really like the Audi A5 coupe too, so in theoretical world, that may have been another preference over the Genesis...

it is NOT priced with the V8 cars, the R Spec V6 starts around 26k or not much more than a 1LT Camaro, fully loaded is around 32k or the same or a little less than a 2LT loaded Camaro coupe.

You're missing the point DarkneSS was making.

The 312 HP Camaro LS MSRP $22,805
vs
The 210 HP Genesis 2.0T MSRP $22,250

Pretty evenly matched entry level price points, but the Camaro has a 100+HP advantage. Now step up to the big engine offering and the gap widens to 120 HP and 150 lb-ft of torque for a $4k difference.

The 426 HP Camaro 1SS MSRP $31,070
vs
The 306 HP Genesis 3.8R MSRP $26,750

Dollar for dollar the Genesis Coupe is tough to justify. Most would spring for the Camaro SS or Mustang GT and sales numbers support this.

Although not really what I want, I do like the looks of the Genesis coupe.

What you are missing too is the R Spec is much closer in options to a 1LT with the RS package, though with extras like a sport suspension, brembo brakes, etc, etc. It is NOT a competitor for the V8 ponies in any way shape or form, PERIOD. Actually it is more of a LIGHT AND CHEAP sports car than a pony car. And FYI, it is believed the turbo will get the Sonatas 274 HP turbo 4, which, because of the weight difference, should make it as quick or quicker than even the 323 hp 12 Camaro, and the V6 should be the Genesis's new DI 3.8 with at least 333 hp. I doubt we will see a V9, the car wasn't designed for it (yet again it was never meant to challenge the 4 grand + more expensive V8 ponies.)

I was referring to performance not trim packages. You're saying spend a little more for the R Spec with the bigger engine. I'm saying spend a little more for the SS with a bigger engine.

Glad to hear after several years on the market, the entry level Genesis could be as quick as the entry level Camaro

It looks worse than the Z and has worse performance than the pony cars, what's the attraction?? Sales of the Genesis coupe AND sedan combined, still trail the Mustang.
