Front License plate without drilling holes

Hi all,

I did not want to drill into the nose to get my license plate frame on (Chevy provides you with rivets to use). Told my dealer not to mount plate frame. In NJ, so need a front plate...

So today I mounted the bracket by using two black plastic long lock ties (threaded through the mount plate and through the grill on the car. They remain hidden behind the plate, so completely out of site. So for those needing the plate you can do without holes and for about .40 cents. You do need to drill two additional holes in the mount plate to thread the ties through. (Need two holes to thread the tie through and then also through the grill).

best

Unfortunetly not a whole lot to see when attached...the plate now covers the ties that go through the bracket and through the grill.

As mentioned, you will need to drill one new hole below the provided mounting holes (the lower holes) then you thread a long tie 12-14 inches through the hole from the bracket. then thread the tie through the grill and catch with your fingers and then through the new lower holes drilled and "set the bracket as made to sit. Once set, pull ties through lock and pull tight so that the lock part of the tie fits and sits in the recessed bracket hole. This will allow the plate to sit on the bracket flush. Cut the excess tie and mount plate, look mom no holes in the bumber and very secure!

If you want to private message me with a number- I can try and walk you through the above.

best and good luck!

I have had my camaro for a few weeks and live in Maryland(which requires front plates) and had decided just to keep extra plate in the trunk until i got a warning or ticket. however after reading this thread i thought i'd give the cable ties a try. Well its easy to do and very inexpensive. however i did put 2 ties through each hole just in case one breaks...this is the best alternative to drilling holes yet...thanks faninc!!

You are welcome and happy to help! I never did put front plates on my vette. That bracket was awful on the car nose! The camaro bracket is not too bad, they shaped it pretty good and plate does not take too much from the nose.

Enjoy the ride.

Here is what I did for the front license plate holder, and this was done yesterday. The kit is from Swift Motor Sports.

This is alot better then the factory front plate. You do need to lift the car to install the kit and you do not have to have any holes in the front of the cars bumper.

Someone suggested INSTEAD of using the black plastic ties and having to drill two additional holes in the plate holder bracket for the tie to run through, get two about 4 inch long molly-jacknuts the type of thing that people drill a hole in drywall then push this through the hole, and the end has a toggle type stops that when pushed through the hole in the drywall, they expand, then you tighten the bolt, put the jacknut through the grill, when the toggle ends expand on the back of the grill, tighten the palte holder against the grill...there have been numerous posts about this and many pictures to see...IF I didn't help anyone, search the forum looking for front plate hits...
