Hood Wrap Crap!

So I'm finally redoing the original hood wrap on my car. I know it should've been done some time ago.

There was nothing wrong with the wrap itself. However,...there are several small blisters starting near the leading edge of the hood, underneath the wrap.

I removed the wrap and found all of those bubbles under the wrap are under the PAINT! The aluminum hood is corroding under the paint.

So it looks like there's no choice other than to sand it down to bare aluminum and repaint, then rewrap the hood? Pain in the ass!

Any thoughts?

Would rather have posted pictures instead of links but this forum is the biggest pain of all the forms I belong to when it comes to sharing pictures.

Yep. But you know what? If that's the biggest thing I've got to complain about this year,....I'm doing pretty damn good.

Can you see me looking on the bright side....

Weird, I haven't noticed any of that on my '13. Good luck with the work.

Does anyone thing there's a snowball's chance in hell the dealer would cover it under the rust and corrosion program?

that's probably a no............. never hurts to try though!

I've not seen a camaro hood do that, you're a first. you can pick up a hood from LKQ for around $500, black is a common color. once aluminum corrodes, it is quite difficult to keep from coming back.
good luck & kudos on the attitude!

So much for being happy about being the first at something. LOL

Don't know why I even asked about the dealer. There's not one of them I'd trust with my car.

Might be time to go to Caliber and see about having the entire front fascia and hood resprayed. Let it cure, then wrap it all in clear vinyl.

I mean really. It's just money...........

I WOULD JUST PREP THE HOOD CORRECTLY AND PAINT IT A SATIN BLACK THAT WOULD MIMIC THE WRAP COLOR AND TEXTURE, THAT WOULD SAVE A LITTLE ON THE TOTAL COST ALSO. I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF HE BLACK WRAPPED HOODS, BUT THAT IS JUST MY TASTE. I DO LIKE THE CAMARO I SAW WHERE THE WHOLE CAR WAS WRAPPED SATIN STEEL GRAY.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IT IS YOUR CAR AND DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. FOR INSTANCE MY CAMARO HAS THE BLACK WHEELS WHICH I HATE AND IT SEEMS THAT MOST GUYS LIKE THE BLACK, I AM CHANGING THE COLOR OF MY WHEELS TO SUIT ME AND WHAT I LIKE. GOOD LUCK GETTING THE ISSUE RESOLVED.

I like the wrap. This is the only car I've ever had where I don't feel the need to constantly mess with it to make it "better".

As I see it I've got two choices. One - Sand down those affected areas and spray them with clear, wetsand smooth and re-wrap. Two - Have it done properly, wait for it to cure and then re-wrap.

Think I'll get a quote and go from there.
