Brake Dust?

Hi All,

I recently went from a 2010 1LT (Synergy Green Edition) to a 2014 2SS/RS Convertible. I know there are definitely differences in the braking system - but wondered if that would be the cause of so much brake dust.

On my 2010 my wheels stayed clean most all the time, especially the inside surface of the rim. I'm finding on my '14 a few days after I clean them they are dirty again and the inside surface is pretty dark. When I got the car (used) I thought they just hadn't been cleaned in awhile so scrubbed the inside surface and it looked good - but it appears it just turns that way from normal driving.

Any suggestions? When I got the car I brought it home and detailed, wax, polish, etc. and put some wax on the wheels, thought that would help, but nope, they are still coated. grrr.

Here's a picture by the way - such a difference not only from the LT to the SS but from the '10 to '14 as well!

It's the brembos brake pads. They dust like crazy.

Ceramic pads spew less brake dust, but you're risking brake noise/squeal in return.

Way more brake area on the SS.

But don't these Brembos feel great?

I have a 2010 SS and I put ceramic pads on 3-4 years ago because I couldn't deal with the dang brake dust. I have hardly no brake dust now, and I have never had any brake squeal or any other problems. They work better than the original pads and very little dust. One of the best things I've done, I have custom wheels and I was sick of cleaning the wheels.

I am also tired of the brake dust, changing pads shortly.

The best thing about the 2013 Midnight Silver wheels is brake dust doesn't show as much. It's still there... just not as noticeable.

I think most use Hawk Performance. I too put these on years ago. Much less dust, no squealing and I love them. I may need to replace the fronts this year, as I have had them on a while, along with some spirited driving through the mountains many times, along with drag racing.
