Hydrogen LS

This is what we all need for our future combustion engine aspirations!

Let’s talk about the good and bad.

Pro's:
- Better for the local environment
- Independent of local fuel constraints
- Cool factor

Con's:
- Produces significantly less power than gasoline counter-parts
- Potential to rust out your internals if you're performing this as a DIY project with little knowledge.
- Hydrogen is dangerous. It is a very unstable gas and will eventually corrode its container as Hydrogen always wants to become something else, including an explosive.
- Is not overall greener for the environment as it requires electricity to produce which mostly comes from fossil fuels on a grid that loses over 70% of energy produced to transmission loss (EV's suffer here as well).
- Would only be good for local / around town drives as it would be impossible to refuel anywhere outside of your home.

Need to depoliticize your thinking just a teeny tiny bit.

That and unless we are talking Fuel Cells, hydrogen combusted in an ICE is not that clean.

31 years ago when the third gen was going out of production Motor Trend did a retrospective on the Camaro. The last caption said "whats does the future hold? a Hydrogen28?"

Why? A certain group of people want to politicize everything, including our cars, sports teams, even household appliances. Another group is reacting to that by saying molon labe. Why is that a problem?

Thanks Trochoidal for sharing this video!

Sure, the technology may not ready for prime (i.e. everyday use), but it is a start. The only way it it will get to that point is for people to experiment with it. I agree with the statements about not necessarily being cleaner for the environment due to the electricity needed to make hydrogen, but the same can be said about EVs. I wonder if any has done a study that looks at the amount of electricity required to get X number of miles for EVs vs hydrogen. There's a ton of variables that would have to get sorted out though.

You think whatever you want but “POS Karen EVs” indicates you aren’t open to any consideration of a technology that might in some if not most cases be better lines up with the anti anything EV sentiment which could very easily be interpreted as political.

Thought police was pretty funny though.

Hydrogen for cars is idiotic. First, the insane pressure that it has to be kept at means it has to leak down to prevent blowing up the car from pressure and that also severely cripples the range, due to the extreme reinforcement the tank requires. And then you have to pressurize it in the first place, consuming lots of energy, let alone the process of making it, and then you still have to truck and ship it all over the globe. While it might make sense for a few limited industries where these things can be controlled better to not have to set up all this infrastructure, it's just idiotic for cars. There are some good vids that break down the hydrogen ICE vehicles that have been produced and prototyped, in short, they are very impractical, far more impractical than an EV. This seems to be mostly supported by people afraid of the future that haven't really looked into this tech much.
