Stick versus Auto on the 2SS

Well I ordered it with Auto, but can you all give me your pros and cons on each?

I am 45 and will be 46 when the car comes out. I went auto for 3 reasons.

1. Taking trips with it the wife can drive an auto.
2. Cylinder Deactivation on the highway
3. My left knee does bind up some when the weather changes do to an old injury.

But am I really going to be missing something going Auto, plus I hated the forced upshift on the 4th gen cars and if they still had that it would be a negative in my book.

You'll still have the paddle shifters for when you want more control, so it isn't a total loss of all the upsides of a stick.

I even read somewhere that the Auto was coming up about 3/10's of a second faster than the stick in testing. Any idea why that is?

I would suggest you go auto. Plus the new camaro will have shifters on the steering wheel - so you can still have the fun and control of manually shifting thro gears (and form what i've read on here is that it won't up/down shift automatically in the manual mode - u want to redline u can)

it is up to you, i'm just throwing positive notes you hadn't included (i'm sure u know all the positives of a standard transmission)

that is not true anymore, with more tuning and better drivers the manual is faster now, but in your average stop light drag you will come out better vs the average driver

Auto is so advanced now that it takes out driver error with shifting at correct times.

That said I prefer stick because I want total control of my car...and for me that is more fun than auto. However, given your situation auto seems like the way to go. There really isn't a wrong choice here, just depends on what you prefer.

Here are the negatives of going auto:

1. You pay more
2. You lose 22 horsepower
3. Your wife will be able to drive it.

Talking Wheres the fun in padlle's

There is one thing the paddle shifters won't allow the thrill of snatching second gear and chirping third, auto's don't do that. plus I'm not sure if you do burnouts but manual does much better burnouts.

I don't know if you'll be able to chirp third, but I have been in an auto that was going 55mph and it still broke loose.

I am 51 years old and a die hard gear head and till the day I die or can't drive I will own a manual...The clutch is nothing like the old 69 corvette I use to own..You had to have a strong leg to push the clutch in, now with hydraulics , it is real easy.
The bold part of your post is fail.
