TT V6 anybody?

Holy crap this thing is potent!!! I don't know if I'd be willing to buy a car with this in it versus...say a V8. But I'd sure as heck want to try driving it!

All I can say is that it is good to have lived long enough to have so much innovation going on in the car world again.

Just saw where it's estimated to get 17/25 MPG. I'd rather wait to see where the LT1 lands before I get excited over this.

My interest is based on a few factors...

one - GM never puts out exact or "below real" estimates...so I expect a 26hwy mpg rating in the CTS.

two - I also expect a 4.5 0-60...not just 4.6 0-60 as they "estimated"...

thirdly - the throttle body is located INSIDE the intercooler housing. You can't access it without removing that top case plate. This engine is efficiency in design as much as fuel economy...it's such an awesome layout!

That....all in a CTS that all rumors point to as getting BIGGER...and theoretically heavier...

...WOW.

Together with the LT1...GM has a power couple unmatched by darn near anyone in the Industry....

Further....take this design and technology...and apply it to a V8.....600+ hp V8 in a tight package and a FLAAAATTT torque curve.

But now I'm dreaming a little bit...

While I am excited about the technology of the new TTV6, what you just mentioned gave me goosebumps.

I'm VERY interested in comparing this number with that of a standard V6. If you look at how they mount the turbo chargers...they almost "replace" the exhaust manifolds...And I think there's less cast-iron in the construction of the turbo unit.

I know there's an intercooler up top - but I don't expect this thing to weigh a whole ton more than a standard V6 because of the way they packaged everything....

I think it's only natural for this to happen...turbos are inherently more efficient than superchargers, and this is a REALLY neat and tidy package. Merc's got a TTV8 that's pretty impressive...and I'm sure the CTS will need a "V" model......

It won't be a ton more ...................... that's 2,000 pounds. LOL

Take a 3.6 L, add two turbos (20 pounds each), add an aluminium radiator for a CAC (10 pounds) and then lets add 2 gallons of coolant (guessing on the abount but that's 16 pounds. Now let's add incrimentals for larger exhaust pipes, larger fuel injectors, larger intake plumbing and say that's another 5 pounds. All in that's ballpark 50 pounds. Now add the extra mass in the transmission and driveline to accomodate the 420 lb-ft of wonderful torque and you are at another 50 pounds or more.

The design efficiencies may or may not drive that number lower but I'm not sure you can put that engine in any car for less than a 100 pound penalty over a standard 3.6L.

Don't forget the 25% GM margin for warranty. We can get to 420 RWHP in a Chevy Heartbeat GM

....I believe the writing is on the wall, with GM's intiatives, greener meaner approach, investment into new technology and manufacturing processes.....that....I hate to say it...but...the 8 cylinder engine as a mainstream powerplant will be an echo of the past in the not too distant future. It's coming faster than we may be willing to accept. Just my o2.
