Well it's best to catalog them in directories just for your own sanity but the head unit will use the ID3 tag information to allow you to sort by artist, album, genre, etc. You can also use playlists but they have to be located at the root of the USB drive.

The manual says that the first 10,000 songs are recognized, but with my thumb drive, it doesn't index all the songs. I have several full albums on there but it only recognizes about half of them. It shows the folders but not the songs. Anyone seeing anything similar?

Have you purchases the songs from iTunes or something? What format are they in? The radio can only play MP3 or WMA from a USB drive. Or are you saying in a given album, only half the songs show?

If you have all your mp3 files tagged with the artist/album/genre info, the Camaro should be able to separate your songs into any of those categories from what I understand. The default order that shows up while it's still indexing your files is alphabetical by song title.

They are albums that I have imported using iTunes. For example, to illustrate my problem, if I delete an album that the folder has a letter B, then the album afterward that starts with a C will then be indexed.

Check your rip settings. Make sure that it's ripping to MP3 and not AAC (the default). Other than that... no clue. Maybe it just needs to be re-indexed? I don't have my car or the manual but I would think there's a way to force this. If nothing else, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to clear the settings should do it.

Well, the files are all mp3. I have taken the thumb drive out and have let it reindex several times with the same effect.

when importing music onto itunes from a cd its automatically converts it to an m4a format, there are several programs you can get to convert this to mp3 just google "m4a to mp3"

You can also convert them from iTunes as well. Or change the setting so it will rip in mp3 format. There are some batch conversion programs, but I don't have one off the top of my head.

windows media player 10 or 11 will have a rip tab at the top, you can use that to rip songs from the cd into a file that can be put onto a flash drive.

Whenever I plug my ipod or thumb drive in the usb nothing happens. My thumb drive lights up for a second and then goes out. The ipod does nothing but light up when I turn the radio off. I can't get any type of menu to come up. The radio portion works fine.
