The quest for more noise !
So after hearing some of your engines yesterday it has made me want to make mine sound a little bit more beefy.... I'm off to see an exhaust specialist to see about removing the back boxes and replacing them with pipe but the other thing I want to do is fit a K&N cold air kit like this one -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/69-4519TP-...item5af071f42c Question is this - is it easy to fit or is it best to find somewhere to fit it ? Bearing in mind I am useless wither anything mechanical lol ! |

That's the exact same one I bought! Same supplier/ eBay item.
It's top value for money, they reckon it puts about another 18bhp on stock. Easy enough to fit, but then I had SteveSS to help me (pretty much did it for me lol). I would suggest to do that first at I immediately heard a difference in the loudness of the stock exhaust as did Steve! Still removed the back boxes though in the end, and replaced with 3" pipe and new tail pipes. The stock is 2.5" and will give the same effect if you don't want to go up to 3" (it's technically tricky but my auto fabricator was pretty mint. It cost me £280 inc new tailpipes to give you a rough idea. Hope this helps? But definitely go for that filter!! Andy |

£280 for the exhaust sounds very reasonable ! I'll do as you suggest and get the filter fitted first and then take it from there |

As expected I would recommend the Magnaflow X-Pipe 6 inch bore cat back. Unfortunately as it was on there when I got it I don't know where to get one or how much it really cost.
I think I'm going to get a K&N induction as well (although when I looked it up I'm sure it said it gave an extra 25bhp). |

I have to say that as someone who likes cars and bikes pretty much stock, I'm seriously tempted after Sunday to make a bit more noise. After all these are muscle cars and should sound a bit more mean! What would be great is the button that was an option (but I didn't have) on my 996 - press it and make noise, press it again and back to normal. Don't know how it worked or if anyone makes aftermarket equivalents for other models - one for Robin ?
I'm also a bit concerned that if I start I might end up like James (Mr Modifier) or Tom.

Haha! Mr modifier! Love it.
Steve SS is the man to ask about cut off valves Rick. He bought some this year, but once he cut out the back boxes decided he liked the note as it was and left it by putting straight pipes through. He probably still has them but you'll probably make the same decision to be honest! |

This is the easiest way (and cheapest way) to make these cars sound great.
Step One: Purchase 2 of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/141006592190?lpid=82 Step Two: Take your car to the cheapest muffler shop in town. Step Three: Tell them to cut out the axle back resonators and make it straight pipe +-$40 Step Four: Tell them to cut out the huge muffler train in the middle of the car and replace with the new mufflers. +-$50 Step Five: Romp a whole tank through it all over town Step Six: Get ready for all the people that hear your car to ask you how many thousands you paid for your amazing sounding exhaust. And watch the look on their face when you tell them $100 bucks plus labor. I'm serious, I had this exact setup on my SRT8 and my buddy had it on his 2011 5.0 and I had it on my Tahoe, All V8s sounded AMAZING. No Drone and when you stepped on it the muscle car angels sang. Literally cost me $180. and I always got asked if it was Magnaflow or Borla Exhaust that I had on the car. And only didn't do it on my Camaro bc I already had the GMPP axle back from the dealer on the car. So I just cut the train out of the middle and straight piped it to the axle backs. |

When you get a engine management light for the new filter, as a few guys have, don't panic! Disconnect the battery, leave it 10 to 15 mins and re plug, let idle, drive like normal and all is fine!
Unfortunately you will have to pay a little more here to remove the back boxes, but no more than £100 and it still sounds thame. Sold the electric cutouts but often pop on ebay, you won't need them, chop the back boxes and it sounds just right. |
