Just got new tint, problem...

I went to my local tint professional last Tuesday to have my windows tinted on my new Camaro. He's done work on my last car and my father and brothers car and has a huge portfolio of cars he's worked on including some high-end exotic vehicles.

My father recommend I not go back to him since he apparently cut off some of his weather trimming on the passenger side window which resulted in a draft that can be heard going 20+.

I didn't heed his warning, got my car tinted and what do I find? Driving home, I hear a strong draft coming from the passenger side window. Two days later (to let the tint cure), I lowered the window and looked in and could see down the inside of the door panel. On the driver side, the weather trimming blocked my view.

I called the tint guy up and told him about it and he said to call the next day to arrange an appointment. I called three times that day and he never answered and the next day he said he ordered the part to fix it. Seems to me as though he knew he did this since he didn't require to see my vehicle before ordering the appropriate part.

Tonight, I look at my drivers side again and notice the trim is cut at the source, but not the entire length of the trim is cut, just a 8 inch section in the middle.

My question is, is it possible to replace weather trimming that has been cut entirely off? Is this a common thing to do when installing tint? Should I let the tint guy do it, or is something like this covered under my warranty? His lack of phone answering troubles me, but he is easy to work with when there and is passionate about his work (or so I thought).

TL;DR: Tint guy cut weather trimming to install tint and there is now a draft. Is this common installation procedure? Can trimming be replaced?

@VoodooVyper, as far as cutting the weather stripping i wouldn't think your warranty will cover this, sounds to me like the guy has no clue. i would not have this guy touch my car again! you can always have someone who knows how to replace this and send him the bill.

If he was really that good he shouldn't have cut it.

If it's the door windows he should have tucked the rubber down into the channel. After you let the tint dry for a few days, you roll your window down and back up then the seal goes back into place.

If it is the weather stripping (like around the rear window) that he cut that is just flat out careless.

I would try another tint professional, it may be a bit expensive, but at least your problems will be taken care of. Lol and listen to your parents next time.

Yeah, I dont understand how this happened? I gotta see pics of this. Sounds to me like the guy doesnt have a clue on how to tint. The only part of the window that even comes close to the seal is at the bottom and if he cut down there it really is a careless act. Lucky he didnt cut into paint

Here's some pictures. All but the last are the driver's side. You can sort of see where my finger is there is a cut there but the trim is still intact on the ends. The last picture is of the passenger side with no trim at all.

In this day and age of tinting, he shouldn't even need a knife. The Company that tinted my car (tritek) has a machine that cuts the tint for all the windows. They just pull it off the machine after it's cut and go from there. Staright lines around all the edges, every window was perfect.

Sounds like an amateur. My guy temporarily puts the tint on the outside then cuts/trims to size. He then removes it and peels the backing and places it on the inside. He never cuts on the inside for that exact reason.

I've used him for 12 years and 7 vehicles. He always does it this way. Comes out perfect every time.
