Scratched

I was driving down the road tonight and all I hear is a thud, what the hell? When I check it out apparently I caught the very edge of a stick with my front tire which flung it up and scratched the side of the car, it's about 5 lines about 1 inch long . To dark for picture right now. Do you guys think insurance cover this? or should I even bother. This is quite frustrating!

:edit: it was more like a mini branch, about 1 1/2 inch thick...

Sorry, that sucks :(

Without seeing a pic I'm guessing that your deducible would end up being the cost of fixing the paint so probably wouldn't be worth filing a claim on.

A pic would help, but of you can feel the lines with your finger than it will have to be repainted. My first thought would be to see if some of the damage could be polished out.

Agreed, if the scratch isn't that deep, you could buff it out....or use some of the newer scratch removers on the market that actually work well. Or get a paint pin from the dealer with the matching paint code, and fill it in yourself.

Depending on how deep the scratch is if it's in the clear coat it can be buffed out and in some cases wet sanded. Someone felt the need to key my wifes suburban a few months back at a local mall 9 ft lof covering the drivers side fender to the rear tail lights. My buddy hit it with a PC and rubbing compound he worked on it for about 90 minutes and got the scratch out.

Apparently it got the rim too somehow, it was so bright outside I wasn't even sure if I got the scratch in the pic but you can see it over my jean reflection.

Most of that should buff out, a good dent and paint guy can make it disappear. The rim need some touch up paint!

Yeah that should definitely buff out. If you don't have a buffer or any hardcore detailing supplies, try heading to Autozone and buy Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0 . Put some on your Index, middle and ring fingers (Works alot better this way) or a MF and try and buff it out yourself.

ive got a way lesser scratch on my cars nose and the body shop said the paint is so thin there he advised not to buff it and would not let it be buffed there. i tried 3m polish by hand and i couldnt get it out either. that will still be very noticeable on yours and personally if you have a low deductible as i do i would claim it. tell em something flew out from under a truck on highway. allstate just replaced my tire from something that went through the sidewall and also hit my rear bumper behind tire. since it hit me and i didnt run it over it went under comprehensive with no rate hike.

In the end the scratch did buff out and the rim is being replaced by insurance, cost me my deductible of $200. The rim cost for one front rim right now is $1,040 +tax They are supposed to call me once it comes in so that it can be switched out and I get to keep the old rim.
