change valve spring with crank pinned
hey, so im about to change my BTR springs (due to clocking about 25k on them) and was wondering if anyone knows a good method to change the springs and tighten down the rockers with out pulling the timing chain cover. i know i can get the springs by doing the TDC method with a straw but not sure about using this method to torque my rockers. any ideas? i dont wana pull the timing chain cover cause i have pinned the crank and dont wana deal with that.

I've never heard of pulling the balancer and timing cover to tq the rockers. Why would you do that?
The service manual has the procedure to tq the rockers. TDC #1 compression stroke. Tighten exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 1, 2, 7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Tighten intake valve rocker arm bolts 1, 3, 4, and 5 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees. Tighten exhaust valve rocker arm bolts 3, 4, 5, and 6 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Tighten intake valve rocker arm bolts 2, 6, 7, and 8 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Have your spark plugs out so it's easy to rotate during your valve spring change and torquing. |

You pull a spark plug and find TDC based on piston position of cylinder #1.

I don't know what kind of rockers you are using but I think I would be more likely to give them a quick check before I would be worried about the springs at this point. The factory units seem to be as good a choice as most options out there but have seen some folks who had an issue with them occasionally spitting bearings. Sorry, bit of a rabbit trail.
