Ok this is a bit off topic, but I figured it would be a good question.

Do any of you guys use driving shoes and gloves? is there a big difference over tennis shoes? Do the gloves just grip better? I mean they must do something because there are huge markets for them, but I would liked to know some of your experiences.

I always wear gloves to prevent my hands from slipping. You can get inexpensive Nomex USAF Pilots Gloves ( I like these as they are Single Layer, so not too thick)

Shoes? A Driving Shoe will have a thinner sole so the "feel" should be better.

I have both. The shoes have a sole optimized for use in a car, eg thin to feel input from the pedals and a heel that doesn't catch on the floor. They are also snug like soccer shoes to prevent them from being too bulky and are 3/4 over the ankles for secure fit/support. I don't worry about them slipping off. There is also likely fire resistance.

Gloves are great if its really hot (sweaty) or cold (for warmth). Again, fire resistance.

I use RaceQuip shoes and gloves, pretty inexpensive. I also have a pair of Pumas that are the same fit and weight as my driving shoes. I use them for around town stuff, because I'd look like a dork wearing driving shoes then....

If you can, go to a place that will let you try the gloves on while in your car. I did this and I'm glad I did, some suede gloves were really slippery on my wheel. I went with a rubber palmed glove that really grips the wheel. Not saying that's the kind of glove to go with, because your results could differ.

Why not try out some driving moccasins? No fire resistance, but do you need fire resistant shoes for track days? Honestly asking... lol

HPDE usually only requires that you wear long pants, and any closed toe shoes.

I have Oakley Shoes and Gloves... havent tried them in the car yet, been raining a lot, will say in my PC racing sim rig , shoes made a big difference in the brake pedal feel. Don't use the gloves in the sim

Try wrestling shoes if you don't need fire resistance. Seriously, the most comfortable solution I've found. Absolutely fantastic way to go. I used to use Piloti shoes, but wrestling shoes are not nearly as hot, provide great feel and when you buy off-season I usually never pay more than half price.

RJS RACING is a good place to buy racing shoes and gloves. The shoes have a bit wider toe box and are very comfortable. I bought size 14/ee and they work well. The gloves I bought from them have a suede palm and the inside f the fingers are also suede.
Makes holding on to the steering wheel very easy.

This is absolutely true and a great point. I have bought wrestling shoes for driving before and they work beautifully.
