problems with a sc ss

I hope i am not posting a thread that already exists.... but.

i recently bought a 2010 2ss with an slp tvs 2300 sc alont with some top end stuff and headers. oh and a snow performance meth system. i have all info on engine build and all that fun stuff

so since i bought it every once in a while it would have issues starting. i was lead to believe that this was due to the cam. however last night went to start it and the remote start didnt work and the check engine light was on. so i scanned it and it is giving me (p1400) and is running rough on start up but eventually smooths out.

any one have any input on this issue?

DTC P1400: Cold Start Emission Reduction Control System

Circuit/System Description

The catalytic converter must be warmed to efficiently reduce the emissions. The cold start strategy is to reduce the amount of time it takes to warm the catalytic converter. During a cold start, the engine idle speed is elevated and spark timing is retarded to allow the catalyst to warm quickly. This diagnostic monitors the following to build an exhaust energy model:
• Engine speed
• Spark advance
• Throttle position
• Engine airflow
• Engine coolant temperature
• Engine runtime
• Park/neutral position
• Vehicle speed

The actual model is then compared to the expected exhaust energy model.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• The engine is running, and a cold start has been detected.
• Vehicle speed is less than 2 km/h (1 mph).
• The engine is at idle with no input from the accelerator pedal.
• DTCs P0068, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0120, P0121, P0122, P0123, P0220, P0222, P0223, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0205, P0206, P0300, P0335, P0336, P0351, P0352, P0353, P0501, P0502, P0506, P0507, P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606, P0607, P060D, P062F, P0641, P0651, P1101, P1516, P1682, P2101, P2119, P2120, P2122, P2123, P2125, P2127, P2128, P2135, P2138, P2176, P2610 are not set.

This DTC runs for 15 seconds within the first 2 minutes of start-up. This diagnostic runs once per trip when a cold start has been determined.
Conditions for Setting the DTC

The actual exhaust energy model does not match the expected exhaust energy model.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P1400 is a Type A DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

DTC P1400 is a Type A DTC.

Description and Operation

Engine Control Module Description
Diagnostic Aids

Any loading of the engine that lowers engine RPM, such as with partial application of the clutch, A/C cycling etc., during the first 120 seconds of engine runtime may set this DTC.
Circuit/System Verification

1. Allow the engine to cool.
2. Start and idle the engine for at least 2 minutes.
3. DTC P1400 should run and pass.

Circuit/System Testing
• Inspect the air intake system for the following:
- Damage, restriction, or modification
- Dirty or deteriorating air filter element
- Crankcase ventilation system for correct operation--Refer to Crankcase Ventilation System Inspection/Diagnosis.
- Water intrusion
- Vacuum leak and other un-metered air downstream of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor
- Intake manifold leak
• Inspect the exhaust system for the following:
- Water intrusion
- Exhaust leak
- Damaged, restricted, modified or enhanced exhaust system--Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust.
• Inspect the engine mechanical for items that could alter the air flow into the combustion chamber. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical.

i have looked into most of these results... and like an hour ago it started up a bit rough for a few seconds and then smooth as butter. some one had said that it could be a or some fouled spark plugs?

think that could be a possibility?
and

thanks for your time

From your description it sounds like it might be leaking fuel injectors. Leaking injectors will leak while the car is sitting. So it essentially floods the engine and will cause hard starts. Once it starts and runs for a little while it'll clear right up and give no indication there is a problem until it sits again for an extended time. The next time it gives you a hard time starting try putting your foot to floor. This puts the engine in clear flood mode and shuts off injectors so your not adding additional fuel to the already flooded engine. If this helps it start up you might be in the market for some injectors.

I will try this in a few... As I'm going to work.. But the injectors are relativly new they are the 700cc injectors that come with the SLP stage 3 kit... But with that out there.. You can bet I'm gonna give it a try....

PS. Thank you

Will update shortly

so i tried that and it actually made the starting worse.... seemed like it was starved for fuel... so no i believe im gonna try the plugs( look for fouled one/s and move on from there...

Good move, I had a turbocharged car and it would exhibit the same symptoms when the plugs were going (note I was running insane boost 28lbs on leaded race fuel). Not saying this is the cause, but it helps to get the simple stuff out of the way first. Good luck.

thanks towlie...

so update:

i feel dumb although i feel that i shouldnt, i swapped all plugs to the bosch iridium fine wires and there was no improvement. so as i was gonna make my way into the fuel system, starting system, etc...etc.... i broke down yesterday and went to the local dealer..

the plugged in to her and the tech walks around my car pull the gas cap off and puts a new one on (at a charge of 35.99 mind you) instant issue resolved.

so yea.... dummy award of the day i suppose

I'm glad the issue was something simple like that.
