1LE Hood care work
Fellow 1LE owners...check this out! I have read all the remedies for the hood and ordered them all! Adams VRT seems most popular, so I went with that first. It really looked good...but I had some streaking, bloching, and darker and lighter areas. But it did richened the black. So then I went over with Chemical guys Matte Detailer sealant. That helped a lot, but still appeared to just have some blochy spots and minor streaks. Am I maybe too picky? Sure! I had just wiped down the rest of the car with Chemical Guys Speed wipe and microfiber cloths. It did an amazing job making the paint look like glass! So I tried it on the hood over the other 2 chems. Wow! That did the trick! Look at that hood now! It's perfect. Supposedly the speed wipe has something in it to keep static down to help keep dust from being attracted to the surfaces as well. Just look at the shine on the car after my wipe down! Awesome! My wife is not happy w me right now...having an affair with my car she says...LOL

My hood looks really bad most of the time. I have chemical guys stuff and when I use it, it leaves streaks and dark/light spots really bad. Looks like someone painted the hood with a 4" wide brush. Not to mention the water spots, I'm really starting to get tired of the hood. That tied with the crazy fragile paint that you can knock off with your fingernail frustrates me...

I wash my entire car with Meguire's Car Soap ... and I don't put anything special on the wrap. Comes out perfectly flat with no streaks or spots, every time. I have a Meguire's product for Rubber/Plastic/Vinyl but it left streaks and so did something called Nu Vinyl that my local shop had ... so I just stopped using products and stick to the regular wash/soap.
Where da problem at? |

Ya, I used them together too based on what I read on this forum. But still was not happy. That speed wipe just really put the nice clean final touch to it and left no streaks or blotches. Did not plan to use that on the hood, just the rest of the car...but I guess I can use it on the whole car now including the hood!

The VRT alone left it somewhat blotchy and like someone else on here said, it looked like someone painted it with a bad paint roller, some grayer strips and some darker strips. I hit the grayer spots a second time to see if that would help, but did not change it. The Chem Guys matte spray over that and a final of the speed wipe fixed it. It does give it some shine...but it is still a matte finish, just with a more rich deep look to it in my opinion.

There is no problem Billy. It is called protection. Sure, when I washed my car I dried the hood right away and no streaks or spots, looked fine! But, I wanted to protect it and give it a deeper rich look. The VRT has UV protection to prevent fading and the Matte spray is a sealer to help seal the wrap from damage. My goal was to make it look better and protect it, not just to wash it without spots.

I use Adams vrt and the big square sponge you can get from them. Move car in the garage or shade. Add some to the sponge and rub it into the sponge, use a circular motion when applying it and apply a thin even coat. Let it dry for a few minutes and buff with micro fiber towel. Adds a nice sheen that is not too glossy and no streaks. Good stuff....I like it...
