I am getting chips in the gills, and I assume on the quarters behind the rear tires as well. I remember on the 4th gen cars my paint on the quarters behind the rear wheels was always shot. My problem is that I do not care for any of the guards that I have seen, and the clear bras I have seen to me are worse than the chips after it has been on for a while. Long and short of it for me is that I will have to have the areas redone on occasion until it becomes a track car, and then it will not matter.

I put RPI Designs stealth guards on the front and haven't gotten any chips on the gilles in the 2K miles since installation. And yes I have looked VERY closely so I'd have noticed if I did since I'm beyond anal about the car. I have XPEL film behind the rears since I didn't like the look of the rear guards... so far, so good

So they work or I'm just really lucky. Either way, I've got no complaints.

Luckily the pitting near the Gills wasnt bad. But Im gonna have to have my rockers repainted and then wrapped since they are really pitted. I ended doing the whole front nose, mirrors, gills, rockers and behind the rear wheels.
I did the same areas using Xpel as soon as I could get it scheduled in. I have a 1000' long gravel driveway so it was essential.

I have ZL1 rock gaurds on mine too (front and rear) you'll still get rock chips around the gills.

For bluBlud and EarlyApex how much did you pay for your Xpel install and what areas did they cover for you? Thanks.

I got the ZL1 gaurds and took them back off when I saw they didnt hardly stick out far enough. Ive got some large flat gaurds for an suv that Im fitting and cutting to fit. So far Ive got one side done and it looks pretty good to me. Id rather not have gaurds on there but I also dont want chips everywhere.

This is how I feel, I hate guards. I am hoping clear bra itself will be enough??

ZL1 rock guards do the trick. They also keep you from getting water marks down the side of your car.

the Xpel and 3M films just depend what you wanna cover, it was $695 for the whole front
of the car and then i added the gills for $150, thats with 3M film

I did the complete front, rockers and complete gill area, mirrors and the area behind the rear tires. In xpel it was right at $900. I got the windows tinted at the same time for another $100. The xpel was about $100 more than the 3M but looks better IMO. Even the gill area is hard to see.

I have it on my 11 which I drove in the winter, I cannot recommend it enough. Had one chip in it over 60,000kms but not one mark below totally worth it!
I unfortunately did not put it on right away with my 13 1LE I am now having the rockers and the gills repainted in the spring before install

Wow was that Xpel Ultimate? I am getting quotes for 3 times that for about the same coverage you described in the San Diego area. I think I will continue to ask around.
