Physics Question on 2SS Performance
While tracking my new car by rail to Birmingham, AL, I began pondering this question. The last "muscle" car I bought (for my then, wife), was a 1989 Mustang Convertible GT 5.0. While I'm not a huge Ford fan, it was pretty fun to drive, and I clearly remember the zip it produced when I got into it. Here's my question after comparing some HP/weight statistics. My new Camaro will have roughly a 60% increase in horsepower to weight ratio over that Mustang. Does this translate literally/linearly? In other words, should I reasonably expect the G force felt through acceleration to be 60% more than that Mustang? Should my new Camaro cover 1600 ft as that Mustang only managed 1000 ft? Will my Camaro be going through 80 mph as that Mustang went through 50 mph? If any or all of this remotely true, my already heightened anticipation will jump ten fold. I don't know that much about car physics, but was confident that someone here could analyze this for me. If it doesn't work like this, what is a better estimation on the performance increase?

I say there are too many intangibles. You have to consider a plethora of other statistics i.e. gearing,(rear end and transmission) wheel size, driver, etc.

Need to consider traction first of all and a host of other factors like drag. It will be faster but the literal performance is not a linear relationship.

The only thing that I can be certain of is the grin that flooring that new Camaro will put on your face will be 100% bigger than the grin that you experienced with that 5.0

I had a Mustang GT and also had a 2004 Cobra. The Camaro is WAY faster than the GT. A well modded Cobra will tear a stock Camaro SS a new one. Of course, a well modded Cobra will tear a new one in most everything out there. LOL! I miss the Cobra, but I love this new Camaro too!

I had an '85 Mustang GT convertible and at the time I thought that car was the fastest vehicle ever made! What a rush it was for me when flooring the gas!
Later on, I got a '98 Camaro SS and I thought, "Wow - this makes the Mustang seem so slow!" ...and I thought this car was the fastest thing in the world! It's all relative and I'm just thinkin' that you will get used to what you have. Not sure how much is physics and how much is perception. Enjoy!! Best regardSS, Elie

It will bury the @$$ of any and all passengers deep into the seats when properly flogged. Is that what you were asking? lol It's a lot quicker than that old 5.0 even with is big old beautiful tub of a rear.
