GM 3000 Mile Oil Change info Approved Oils for GM Cars GM Goodwrench Site preaches ACDelco Filters Got this off GM.com - ACDelco and GM are wheelin and dealin here. Some research outside the box for ya... GM+Mobile Oil = 2010 Camaro but Mobile 1+ZDDP = WTF? Mobile 1 tells me this when I ask it to help me select my Oil/Filter data for an SS <1200 miles in +0degrees environment: Current Vehicle: Year: 2010 Make: Chevrolet Model: Camaro Engine Type: 8cyl. 6.2Liter Naturally Aspirated Filter matches for the vehicle you selected: Champion Model PH48 Interestingly enough - none of these match up. Weird. GM says put in Mobile 1 oil, use an AC Delco Filter and chnge it every 3000+ miles. Gawd I'm confused. Nobody can agree on anything anymore and everyone is in bed with everyone these days. |

Royal Purple is really good. I use that and or Amsoil. I put Amsoil 0W-30 in the Camaro for its first change. Thick oils KILL power and today's TRUE sythetic oils have better load carrying and film strength. Beside, no one considers the fact that thinner oils dissipate HEAT better! Free power and lower temps. What more do you want.

Although I know what the owners manual says, and there are a lot of opinions on this forum, I have found this forum to be very valuable. It is called bob is the oil guy.

Amsoil is the best and it has been proven time and again. Why use anything else?

I was under the impression Redline motor oil is the best via the motor oil forum cited above.

Amsoil Royal Purple Mobil1 They are all great oils. IMHO Myself, I went with 0W30 Amsoil because in dyno tests (our dyno tests) it always made the most power at lower temps 140-180F. I run at 180F with a 160 thermostat. It would probably make more power even at higher temps but we never tested it up there. 4-6HP depending on what oil your testing against. Personally, I used to like Mobil1 before there formulation and addative packages changed but now, I like amsoil because it shows me more power.

Do I need to use a special filter with synthetic oil?
Is there a good performance filter brand that anyone can recommend? K&N, for example? |

Our 2500 hp Pro Street car kicked the oil pump belt off at half track. Run completed with zero oil pressure. Oil pan dropped and bearing checked between rounds, no damage to the bearings. Sold me on Redline. I put Redline and KN filter on at the 1500 mi oil change. Redline all the way.

I have seen my share of oil pump belts come off and I can tell you with 1000% certainty that no engine can survive no matter the oil.
