GM CANADA refuses to sell new Chevy SS

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11302225...sold-in-canada

Appearantly, it has been decided by General Motors of Canada that they will not permit the sales of the New Chevy SS in our country, however, they have not indicated as to why?
If you can buy a Camaro SS, ... Cadillac CTS-V, ... or a Corvette C7 then what is the reason?? 4 Doors, NOT 2!
I was looking into buying one, however, perhaps, now I will consider buying a Dodge Charger SRT-8 instead.

Over the years, I've owned 5 RWD Caprice Classic's and really wanted to get back to driving a RWD sedan once again. Not in Canada ..Pitty!

Because the only reason they brought the Chevy SS over from Australia was because they needed a race car for NASCAR.
& they have to sell a minimum of 5000 cars to meet NASCAR rules.

This is not the first time this has happened either; not selling in Canada.

PS: You can't buy a '12+ Chevy Caprice PPV (Police only) either, also from Australia :emoticon7:

Thank you Holden

You sell more cars when it's available to more people.

Yes, the G8 GTP and GTO was the same and you can add the Caprice last year to the list as well even though it is only available to police, however, I have yet to see them used by the police in Canada.

We need an entry level GM RWD sedan in CANADA as I'm sure there still is a market for them, but it doesn't require a Corvette engine to be a big seller, just a V8 will do.

My beef is that there has been quite some time that the Chevy SS has been known to go into production, however, only now GM Canada decides to pull the plug for sales here. I feel this should've been done long ago!

So, is it Holden or GM Canada behind this?

can you buy used american cars and bring them across the border?
the caprice ppv can easily be bought by civilians in the US, theres a couple or so on the impalass forum that have bought them.

The gto was not for sale in canaca becaus the bumpers did not meet canadian safety specs. I am betting this is more of the same.

which is sad because the US worldwide has some of the most stringent safety regulations to begin with for cars and trucks.

Wait for the Impala to go on sale, and I'm sure they'll come out with an SS version, like every other generation of the car.
At the same time you can support our Canadian manufacturing , which as we all know, is the BEST IN THE WORLD, hands down.
I see the GM ivory towers are back to their dirty old turf games, again.
Then they wonder why they get into such financial distress and have to have governments bail them out (which by the way is OUR tax money ).

This is correct.

However, back in 2008 or 2009 (I don't remember exactly, but around there somewhere) Canada amalgamated the bumper safety standards with the U.S., so we now follow the same safety regulations as they do.

The 04-06 GTO failed the front bumper crash test because the Canadian safety standard board used to test the front impact at a slightly higher speed then the US did. But now that they're the same, you can actually buy a GTO thats been imported or import one yourself. I've seen 3 or 4 Ontario plated 04-06 GTO's since this happened.

Same thing goes for the previous generation Mitsubishi EVO, it failed the same front end crash test so it was not allowed to be sold into Canada. You can import one and register it now though.

I think for the most part it's a government scam.

Maybe GM decided since Canada got the Chevy Trax and the USA didn't, that they should give them the SS and not to Canada.

Fair trade??

So does this push the resale of my 2012 upwards or will it have any effect at all?

What would this have to do with the resale value of your car? GM won't bring the new Chevy SS Sedan to Canada, not the Camaro SS. Still lots of those here.
