Daily Driver into NYC?

I've been scratching my head on this so I figured the group could help!
I have my 2lt 'bee...and love it. Currently it sits in the driveway most days since I take mass transit into work, but due to some potential changes comnig up with my family life, I may need to start driving in every day. (long story, but good nonetheless!).

Anyway....the reality is that I'm stuck with a choice...either I take my car, drive it into midtown Manhattan 5 days a week, leave it with the parking garage and deal with the unavoidable scrapes, scratches, and whatever else...

Or I sell it and get something better suited as a daily driver that I won't mind the bumps and scrapes....

So what would you guys do? Take the camaro into the city every day and watch it become 'used', or spare the suffering?

Drive it everyday and love it just park in safe places. park further out so you walk farther but get right up against a wall to protect it.

Being an New Yorker myself you don't have much to worry about. I used to drive in and park a block over from Time Square everyday and I never got any damage. But if you don't feel safe taking it in the city go find you a old work car. I got a 95 9C1 police package Caprice AKA battleship and I have no fear in that car, dealer friend picked it up for me at auction for $200 and the car is in excellent shape. Gets great gas mileage too shockingly enough, and the LT1 is a plus.

Thanks for the input, but i specifically said I can't buy a cheap daily driver...
It's another car to insure, and i dont have any room for another car to be parked at home....so as much as I'd love that option, it isnt on my radar :(

Where did you specically this this? I read the thread several times and didnt see it. NO NEED to have anything but liability on the beater. Now as to where to park it, sorry can't help there.

Personally im not sure where you are in NYC, but i used to live there. My parents bought a brand new avalanche, it was scratches up a mere month later. Someone ran a nail against it. I also dont trust parking garages in the city everything is done in a hurry and they dont care about your car. its up to you in my opinion new car in the city = bad idea. Sorry and i understand people will disagree but thats my opinion

WOW I would say if you can't afford a beater to drive into town everyday, then enjoy the car ya bought and try not to get to upset about the small stuff. It's yellow like a cab so it wake some folks up when they see it's not a cab. You bought it, so relax and enjoy it, some day you can always get it re-painted if need.

My 2 cents

I'm sure you can ask "others" who drive into work (carpool) where's the safest garage to park in.If there is such a thing.Get plenty of touch-up paint and call it a day.

I'd drive it,especially if the changes that are coming, might make you miserable. At least you'll be smiling every time you get into your car.
