Rod Mod Diy?

Anyone have a link to a diy or can give instructions?

I'd like to do my own intake since it's winter.

PM or post here

Thanks!

Doubt you get one as few shops would lose business

+1 - I spoke with the GPI crew at 'cfest and was told the rod mod time consuming, aka labor aka where the real money to be made is...plus the research/testing required beforehand to get it right aka intellectual property...that said so much more to do before rod mod benefits really shine thru...

The rod mod is what it is.

Rods installed in the manifold to help airflow into the runners. We have also found benefits with removing the stands and porting the plenum during engine dyno testing.

The rods are melted into the rear of the manifold. We weld fasteners on the rods, taper them down like a bullet kind of, and install them one at a time. Then the manifold is drilled and they are bolted in place.

I have seen guys diy it.

Don’t miss with th me rod placement, it’s hard to fix if u do lol.

Drill press and large bit makes short work of the center posts, sharpen the end of the rod for the back and heat it to pierce the intake (don't miss lol). Small machine screw to affix the rod into position in the tb opening area (drilled and tapped) and some epoxy. Its not for the faint of heart to tackle lol

not too bad, but the whole 'dont mess up the rod placement' is a little scary lol

Old thread but it was Not to hard to do.

my first post after lurking for a year
I did my own yesterday and it took a little while but wow it made a huge difference in the way it pulls at mid and wot. Total cost for materials was under $25.00 and took me about 1.5hr to take off the manifold, mod it and put it back on. I used 1/2" aluminum rods and stainless steel fasteners. I also used an epoxy made for plastic to metal. Each rod is bolted and glued at both ends(one at the back and one on the side of each)

I completed mine a few days after this post was made. I took two 3/8 or 1/2" rods and ground them down at the back end and tapped them for an m6 nut. Then tapered the front side, drilled 2 .128 holes in each rod then safety wired the rods in the front. 2500 miles so far and they are still tight.

Epoxied both front and rear as well.

It is time consuming. I did mine but granted mine has a metric ton of port work done.
Yeah you can do it but if you mess up.....
