Glad a random post helped someone, that may be all this thread is good for... And a laugh or two...

Back off topic... Corey spoke with Seth at ERL today. Seth and Sean are going to talk with their lead assembly guy and discuss my potential build.

Concerns...

Power... We are hoping to be in the 1800 -2000 + rwhp range while in the 28-34 lbs. boost range, on C-16 or maybe C-20 fuel...

Heat... We are asking about heat issues with a partially filled block... If I understand it correctly, there is a material they mix up and pour into the block after assembly... Water passage areas... For drag racing, they can actually do a full fill... But those cars are not running near the time mine will be... The purpose for this is rigidity in the lower assembly... This material has the same expansion properties as the aluminum block itself... But, driving in the Texas heat could be an issue... So, we are considering a bigger aftermarket radiator, better fans, and laying the radiator back a bit to clearance it from the inter cooler, allowing for more air flow over the entire radiator...

Head gaskets... Obviously this will be a six bolt block and heads... Copper gasket... Not ideal since I'm gone for a month or two at a time.. It would suck to come home and fine a cylinder full of water... A signature event with copper gaskets... Cosmetic or another steel layered gasket... Or fire ringing the cylinders... Time will tell on that point...

So, we are currently in waiting mode... Then we will call AllPro and determine the heads to use and spec a cam to go with it... Corey will start stripping the car down in the next week or so to get it ready to go to the cage fab shop...

Lubrication... We may, hopefully not, end up having to do a dry sump oiling system...

Going to be a race to have it all done by October...

We had this talk once but I'm gonna say it again, sorry in advance. Why not just get a LSX block? It'll easily hold your power goals, I'm guessing the ERL won't be any lighter once you start filling the block, you won't have to worry about the fill material moving differently than the cast material, with the LSX you'll still have all your water passages so no thought ever given about your block temperature, you can have an LSX tomorrow & most important, I'm guessing the LSX is a 1/4 of the price of the ERL. Am I wrong? I'm not being argumentative, you know I've got nothing but love & respect for you & Corey.

coming from you, I don't take this as argumentative at all.., I respect your opinion a lot... So... In response...
If we could pick and choose a block, that might be ok... But, cast sleeves are not anywhere near as strong as ductile iron sleeves that are machined to a design wall thickness... A bit or core shift or sone sand moving around that isn't supposed to and there you go...

If we could get a truck load delivery of blocks and subject them to testing to determine wall thickness, straightness of align bore, etc... Then we would maybe go that route... To me it's not really a weight issue... If it was I would trim my fat ass down.. I'm just more comfortable with my goals going with a Darton sleeve cylinder rather than a cast sleeve... I know what the experts say... But I've read a few horror stories as well... Which I as much as anyone know anything can and will happen... This damn black cloud that follows me around...

I'm happy with the service ERL has provided to date and I'm loyal to good vendors... I'll stick with them for now... Now if they come back with a 30K price tag... Well, that's a different story... But that won't happen...

Here's one for you... When Corey was talking to Seth, Seth asked for a time spot of something in one of my mile videos... Apparently they have them and have viewed all of them and have seen lots of this thread... I was blown away... So there appears to be a vested interest... And with this new motor, I will not let them down...

That being the case, I wish they would come on as a sponsoring vendor here at Camaro5.. There are lots of their motors here and more all the time...

Sleeves are the one thing I hadn't even thought of, I agree iron is much stronger than cast. I'd like to know what the actual limit on the LSX & all the other after market blocks, you know Chevy & every other company has tested them that far & then they list their actual limit much lower. I've been a fan of the LSX way before I ever had one, I think they're hard to beat for the money. With as far as your pushing yours & the money you will have invested I would definitely want the strongest thing available, I'm very loyal also, friends & business wise , if someone treats me right I'll stick with them forever & treat them the same way I told you before & I meant it, even if I don't drive in the event I'm gonna fly out there & watch you crush the record!.

Corey has an all wheel dyno rated to 2400 hp... I want to test that... Plus we can tie the car straight down on it so the tires won't be so want to spin on the Dyno... We did max out his in floor dyno... It goes to 1200... Corey laughed and said he hadn't maxed that one out before... The sheet goes to 1200 and then flat lines for a while and then drops below 1200 again...
