has anyone worked for a car company?

I, like many others, am looking for a job. I am a full time college student but am looking for a part time job. Being an auto enthusiast I figured I would try looking at dealerships and such for a possible job. I am not looking to be a salesman, just something part time, possible minimum wage just to put some money in my pocket for gas and whatnot.

I was wondering what the best approach would be. Do I call them up and ask? or should I go in person and ask?

How much skill level or experience do I need? I can do some basic mechanical work, the most intensive thing I've done is replace an inner tie rod bushing on my cavalier, just to give an idea.

Thanks in advance.

after 12th grade, i worked at the gm dealer. it was a small place, so i just asked for the general manager, asked if he needed help doing anything & ended up with a job detailing vehicles. i also helped move inventory around the lot & pick up auction purchases. didn't pay diddly squat, but it was one of my favorite jobs!
