I35 Austin
FYI, For those who don't have the front plates such as myself. I was going down 35 to take the overpass onto 183 and right in between the onramp and the outside lane was an APD car with the rear facing cameras. He was sitting in a prime spot to catch the plates fom the traffic side and the onramp. I pulled up pretty close to the car in front of me just in case. I heard that APD was going to have the cameras installed with software to read and check license plates as they drive by and if it comes back with anything then they pull you over. If you don't have a front plate not sure what it does.

It would give them a reason to pull you over. If all of your "stuff" is in order, ie no wants or warrents, then it is just a nice little ticket for no front plate. I love Texas, been here all my life, but I am not putting a front plate on the BEE. Side note, if you happen to get pulled over by a car lover, they understand and will take a look inside and talk shop for a bit and send you on your way. I am just saying!!!!

I been driving without a front plate for nearly 10 years and been giving 4 warnings and I drive a Monte Carlo SS Pace Car before my black SS with orange stripes. My cops just use this law to check for warrants and drugs. Heck, I got a speeding ticket a month ago from a town with ahole cops and he didn't even mention it even though he saw me coming.

Good on you. I got ticketed for no front plate several years ago. $110 non-moving violation fine. |

I've been stopped twice now in the span of a year, once by SAPD and once by Highway Patrol. Received a speeding ticket from the SAPD officer who looked like he was 12, and received a warning from the Highway Patrol on I-35 just south of Dallas.
Neither one even mentioned the front plate. |

Hmm well thats good to know, but then again i guess it just depends on who pulls you over. Im thinking of removing my front plate but dont want to end up with another ticket... at least his one wont be for speeding. I work in ATX and AutsinPD is pretty picky about everything so I can see those aholes pulling you over for no front plate. There is ALWAYS someone pulled over on I35 somewhere. I haven't ever had an issue with SAPD, and I hope it stays that way.

Actually the law states only that the front plate must be visible from the front of the car. I received 4 warnings before I finally just suction cupped it to the windshield. I drive back and forth on I-10 to El Paso about 5 times a week, with the Mexican violence they have on average about 6 troopers cover that same 20 miles. Have'nt received even a second look since I put it on the dash.
