I remember in high school I thought I could beat my friends Z28 3rd gen Camaro with my 230 hp Maxima, HP #s were the same but he had 100 more torque so I got spanked like a little baby. Always factor in TQ. |

It should be a drivers race. When cars are only one second or less behind each other its a drivers race. I once beat a low 12 second modified 1972 Camaro with my mid 13 second Slighty modded 67 GTO. The Camaro driver missed his 2-3 shift and I pulled away from him. So its always a drivers race when there is only a second or less difference between cars.

Did he swap out the 6 speed for a 5 speed?
The camaro/firebird hasnt had a 5 speed matched to a v8 since 1992. |

Don't underestimate the old LT1's, they responded nicely to some bolt on mods and C5 weighs more.
