It should be a drivers race. When cars are only one second or less behind each other its a drivers race. I once beat a low 12 second modified 1972 Camaro with my mid 13 second Slighty modded 67 GTO. The Camaro driver missed his 2-3 shift and I pulled away from him. So its always a drivers race when there is only a second or less difference between cars.

Did he swap out the 6 speed for a 5 speed?

The camaro/firebird hasnt had a 5 speed matched to a v8 since 1992.

Don't underestimate the old LT1's, they responded nicely to some bolt on mods and C5 weighs more.

As opposed the complete overkill 275s on the Camaro V6 ??? Hell M3s come factory with 255s in back even with 400+ hp...
