.

I wouldn't have thought that the deviations in the thickness of paint would be enough to cause those ripples, however slight. It could be that the way it's applied these days has a lot of airflow that makes the tiny waves show up.

I really don't know what causes them. My guess was that the thin metal is rolled and stamped, which would explain the slight deviations.

Could be something with the clear coat too I suppose.

Don't some cars have a perfectly mirror smooth finish, or did I dream that?

Well, some of that metal is stretched pretty good in order to make the car look as good as it does, so I'm not surprisedd by your comments, however, it does worry md a little. Were all the cars like that on every panel and was is on select panels or where tgrt on every car on every panel?

.

I looked closely at the hoods of two different C5s, a black 'vert and a Victory red hardtop. They had identical ripple effects.

I should have lined up some other pieces parts, but it was 100+ and sweat was running into my eyes, or maybe I was just hot and bothered by all the Camaros !

I wont say the paint jobs of old are better than todays..... Buuuuut I will say paint seems to be a lot thinner now days. Maybe thats why its much easier to spot inconsistencies in the underlying metal??

To get that "Glass" looking paint job is a lot of hard work!

It is by far one of the best documentaries I have seen. Really gives ya a taste of what these Men and Women(Boys and Girls) go through in the middle east.
