I understand that but it was part of my point. As far as I know, the only car GM builds that gets its own engines is the Corvette. Hand build or not, GM won't build a Camaro specific engine like Ford did for the BOSS.

Look at it from a marketing standpoint.
The Camaro comes with a specific to Camaro engine, or the Camaro uses powerplants taken from the higher performing Corvette. From both a marketing and cost perspective the Covette engines make total sense.

It makes sense to do it but GM doesn't do it, other than the wet sump, assembly line LS3. If GM was using the LS7 and LS9 in the Camaro, or even assembly line built version, I would be all for it, but they don't. I'm not saying the Camaro under performs or is a bad car, I'm saying that GMs unwillingness to do a one of engine for a Z/28, or using the Z06 engine, limits what the Z/28 can be.

If that's the case the 5Gen Z28 will be pushed into the stratosphere price wise by the dealers

I'm thinking LT1 engine will be for a Z-28. It's 450HP and I imagine the SS will stay around 426

With its LS7-like torque curve up to 4000 rpm, it would be a worthy candidate...but will it "speak" to the Gen5 Camaro's other computers/onboard systems?

I just don't see the LT1 in the 5Gen. The Camaro follows the Corvette. The Z28 is to the Camaro what the Z06 is to the Corvette, I don't see another alternative to the LS7.

I've been happy with what they've done so far except for that great big hole in the lineup slots that should say Z/28!

Agreed Clyde. But...as much as we see it the way we do, with an argument to bring the product to market, I am afraid Corporate does not see it the same way. The current products, being cash cows, must continue to provide profit. When the end of that is near, then Z design on the board will be brought to fruition.

Neither do I and I think that's the biggest problem.

Oh I know, but I'm about ready to stop waiting and just go ahead and buy a new truck and forget about buying a new Z/28 when they finally get around to making one. Ever since the new Camaro concept was revealed in Jan. 06, I've been waiting for them to announce/build a new Z/28, I frankly feel they missed their chance (at least with me) and I'm ready to move on. I think my Z/28 fund will instead be spent on a '69 Z/28 to restore and a new truck. Sorry GM, I just got tired of waiting, I can't stay on hold forever and then run out and buy one when they FINALLY announce one in two years or so. I've been almost all GM for the last 48 years (1 '58 Ford and 2 '60s VWs) and I'm so tired of waiting for GM that I'm going to look at new Ford and Dodge trucks and heaven forbid I might even look at a Tundra! I've already got 4 GM nameplates in the driveway, no need to keep waiting just so I can add a fifth one, I'm ready to buy now, GM just does not have the product I want.
Clyde

GM cars I used to have (not in the order I owned them): '62 Corvair, '67 Camaro RS 327cid, '68 442 Ram Air, '69 Z/28 (endura bumper), '65 pickup, '67 pickup, '66 Tempest 2dr, '69 pickup, '59 Biscayne, '60 Impala, '74 Impala, '84 S10 pickup, '85 S10 Blazer, '95 S15 Jimmy.

Current GM vehicles currently in my driveway: '95 Chevy 20 series van, '88 S10 Blazer, '99 Blazer, '05 Chevy Express 3500 van.

So 86% of the vehicles I've ever owned were GM and quite a few were bought new, I think my loyalty is about to change!!

Wildpaws, I feel the same way. It's gonna be a while before I can buy a new car but with no Z/28 in sight I'm not sure what I am going to get. I'm waiting to see what the new Silverados look like.

No it won't speak to gen 5, it'll speak to gen 6 though
