Well it was not the drives, gonna replace IDE cables. [some crappy round ones I tried out are in there now, going with some ribion] If I move allot of data you will hear the HD head dock or lock for a sec like a power off.

could be a power supply problem maybe but levels look good?

So what's going on with your mess. You should really consider dumping it and building or buying something newer.

not sure which did it but I am sure I was down on power. only a 300watt ps was in there. Now got a gold 680watt n new IDE cables.

No HD head docking noises now under load.
