People need to use the brains God gave them and look into past performance cars to find the answer to this question. The new engine is most likely going to be the LSA, and it will only make more power than the 556 HP the CTS-V has, if the intake and exhaust are slightly more free-flowing. I would guess a 10 HP bump to approximately 566 HP.

GM has absolutely no reason to push the limits of the motor more than they already have (and for less money, even).

This new Z/28 doesn't need 600 or 800 HP to be competitive and beat the GT500 performance numbers. It just needs high quality, wide, and sticky tires (read: not Goodyear F1s) and a great suspension setup for the roadcourse.
I think you will be proven wrong. I am thinking at least 600hp for the Z when it comes out.

You gotta figure that Callaway is supercharging the LS3 and getting 572 HP. Surely Chevy will at least get that out of the LSA just for principle?

Sound thinking - if you look at what GM has done with the vette - it typically comes out with good horsepower but they always have tricks in their bag to bump it up over the next several years to keep the public interested in buying it. So, I expect it to come out with 575 or less.

It they change the platform as I have read on this forum and it becomes a smaller car, there won't be much incentive to raise horsepower a lot.

Why do you guys think GM will stand still with the CTS-V? The V will also get an increase in HP but I still think the Z28 will make more than it. Also if GM gives the Z28 more hp yhan the Corvette then why the hell would they be afraid giving it more than the CTS-V?

I still say close to 600hp, and The CTS-V is more than just about power. Its a Luxury Sport sedan, there won't be much luxury in the Z/28 in comparison. No Magnetic Suspension, the interior won't be a nice, far less sound deadning etc... Nobody is going to cross shop a CTS-V and a Z/28.

Exactly. I also suspect people saying the z28 will not get more hp than the V have an adgenda. Someone people have a V and they will be mad as hell to see the Z28 with more power.

Take an LLT out of a CTS, and put it into a Camaro...you've gained nearly 10 hp just because the air pathways are less restrictive in the Camaro.

By this logic...it's very easy to believe that a completely unmodified LSA in a Camaro would put out at least 570hp.

i do not believe they will put too much above the 556hp. due to the fact that it will probably take away from vette sales,...?

Why would they change the tune of the engine based on the transmission?
