Hood Insert Question...

A couple of months ago, my 2014 ZL1 was vandalized.

One of the scratch victims was the hood insert.

In order to get an acceptable repaint, the insert must be disassembled to remove the water deflector and the 4 vent inserts.
That part isn't really an issue.

The real issue is putting it back together after the repaint.

I have reached out to the actual assembler of the hood insert (TransGlobal LLC) to ask what adhesive was used to bond the Valox type 732E water deflector and the 4 Nylon type 8233G vent inserts to the carbon fiber. (materials were obtained from this link: http://www.plastics.gl/automotive/cool-runnings/ )

To date, I have not received a response.

Would anyone here happen to know what adhesive needs to be used for the reassembly?

actually a good body shop would tell you that it is a non-serviceable part according to GM and should be replaced.

My insurance company will definitely not go for that option.

Besides, I want to change the color of the insert.

Here is the thing, if it says non-serviceable part they have to replace it. That happened to me with chips due to road debris and it was replaced. No questions.

It's not clear if the OP has a stock insert or an aftermarket one, plus, he doesn't specifiy if his insert is the exposed carbon fiber one or the painted one.

It sound to be that he has the painted version.

You are correct, I do have the stock painted insert.

The insert was scratched in only a couple of areas - mostly towards the rear.

Because I want to change the insert color, I want to first disassemble the unit.

The company that originally assembled the inserts has responded to my inquiry about the adhesive and will have an answer to me next week.
