Moutain Cruise Meet up - Sandia Peak (Albuquerque)

I put the idea out there in another thread and some other people expressed some interest so I decided to dedicate a thread to organizing a mountain cruise meet up in Albuquerque that would go up to Sandia Peak and we could take some pictures and have some fun.

Who would be interested and has any other ideas to make it an awesome meet up? I'm thinking it would be cool to have a meet up that could make the front page here on Camaro5 and I definitely think it's possible because it definitely is some beautiful scenery from the top of the Sandias.

So here's the basic questions:

Who's interested?

When should we do it?

Where do we meet up (assuming we all want to cruise up the mountain together)?

Also, all generation Camaros are welcome.

My only restriction is that as some of you know I'm still out of the country on a semester exchange until the beginning/middle of December so it would have to be after that and it of course depends on weather.

If weather is too much of a restriction it may have to wait until March or April when it gets better, but we should start organizing it now and make it a great turnout for Camaro5!

Let me know what you think and if you're interested

Scott

P.S. It doesn't only have to be Albuquerque/New Mexico people...If some of our neighboring state members can make the trip to Albuquerque it would definitely be cool and we'll be sure to make the event worth the drive (maybe a Camaro5 dinner/cookout and a longer cruise around the city or something...I don't know - I'm open for ideas! )

Oh...For the out of state people -

Albuquerque does have a track (correct me if I'm wrong - I've never been lol) so to make the trip worthwhile we could organize a track event after if you want

Let me know what you think...I'll start speading the word

Oh yeah - and my intent isn't to compete with the Camaro5 event in Georgia - I would never want to take some of the glory away from that event (I'm hoping/preliminarily planning to attend that event myself). I said Spring at latest only because of weather concerns

Just want to organize a cool meet up/event for Albuquerque

If the Camaro5 event in Georgia is a little too far away for, say, some of the California members to make it maybe this can be their cool Camaro5 event for the year

This is great! I would love to take it out on a preliminary trip and I've heard new Mexico is beautiful! One you get more details set in stone I'll let the Oklahoma Crew know and see what we can do!!

PS Do I sense a little twin competition for homepage highlights?

For those who don't know what Sandia Mountain looks like here's some pictures...It'll be an awesome meet up with some great pictures of our Camaros and some great scenery!

There's also some trails on top of the mountain it's a pretty cool place

P.S. Yes, that's me sitting on the ledge looking over Albuquerque...It's a very relaxing place up there lol

Sandia Peak Ride

I would be interested in doing the drive up to the Crest. I think we would have to wait until Spring to do it though. How about a drive through downtown Albuquerque on old Route 66? Maybe stop at the Route 66 Diner and take some pictures? Talk about Nostalgia!

That sounds like a great idea.

Let us know when and where, and we will try to make it.

I'm game. I think a trip to the peak would have to be during the Spring time, but a drive throught downtown and route 66 like Bethgrce suggested sounds great!
Also another option would be maybe going to the track which can be booked for race meets, practicing, events etc....... and having some fun there. Here is the link to the track I think Jnewberr2ssrs was reffering too. www.sandiamotorsports.com
There's also www.abqdragway.com

My MOM lives in Albequerque. I drove up the crest with the family two years ago. It was the beginning of April and we were driving through ice and slush at the top. It is a beatiful drive, but a little uncomfortable coming down through the ice and slush.

I will be there this coming summer in June for about two weeks. I was going to leave WKDFIRE at the house. It is better to fly the whole family out. Less cost, faster and better mental state of mind.

I hope you all enjoy the cruise.
