I think I got screwed
So I got a supplier discount code from a friend but the dealer told me that no one is accepting those. I figured that might be the case so I wasn't too worried about it. I also have USAA, so I was expecting to at least get that discount of $750. But then when I went in to pick up my car the dealer told me that they aren't honoring that either. They led me to believe that no dealers were. But after reading on here I see that a bunch of people got both discounts.
So my question is: Do dealerships have the authority to decide what discounts they honor, or did they lie to me and screw me out of like $1,750? Also, if any of you got either of these discounts will you please tell me what dealship you got them at? Thanks! |

I just bought a Cobalt for my mom last week using the USAA discount. It sounds like they can choose to accept it or not. I believe this discount functions much like a rebate, in that GM will give them the money later. If that's the case, I can't see why a dealer would not accept it.

I'm active duty military and I got the supplier discount. Came out to about $1300 off MSRP. My dealer is Macmulkin Chevrolet in Nashua NH. They're awesome if you want to call them and check.

It is the dealership's option to honor or not accept any discounts. There are dealers that do, but sounds like you already accepted delivery....so I guess it's a little late for you to do anything about it. Sorry....

Pretty much any dealership in Florida I have fiund are not offering GM Supplier on the camaro even with it listed on the GM Supplier web site. I am having to go out of state 1100 miles away to get my car with GMS.
My understandsing is that dealerships do NOT have to honor GMS if they do not want to. Sean

Dealers always have fine print on their agreements with these organizations that state that high demand/custom orders may not be eligible for these types of group discounts. The

The dealer is not obligated to give you the discount. You have to find a dealer that will honor it.

Ok well it looks like I screwed myself a little bit by not loking for another dealer that would honor the supplier code. But one guy at my dealership told me I'd get a USAA discount, then when I showed up to buy it another guy said it wasn't happening.
I guess I'll call the manager and talk to him about it. I'm sure he'll say I'm out of luck, but it doesn't hurt to call. |

I didn't get any discounts other than the GM Rewards $1,000. Which the dealers HAVE to honor.
I don't feel I got screwed, because I got the EXACT car I wanted from the dealership I have used two other times to buy cars & I think my salesman is GREAT!!! It's all in how you look at things.

The USAA is a REBATE not a discount. There is absolutely no reason for the dealer to not provide it to you and GM will pay that $750.00 directly to the dealer.
REBATEs must be honored if you can prove you qualify for it. |

The dealer should have given you the USAA rebate. It's a rebate not a discount and the dealer doesn't lose anything by giving it to you. They do not have to honor any discount (gm emp, supplier, military, credit union) if they don't want to, but a rebate doesn't affect a dealer. It's money from the factory to the consumer. I'd go back a talk to the sales manager to try to get the $750.00 Good luck.

So who is out of pocket when the dealer does accept the discounts like student or GMS? Does GM pay the dealer back? Or is the dealer the one giving up the money?

Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, TX and Mac Haik Chevrolet in Houston, TX are both honoring supplier pricing. Both will also automatically accept the USAA rebate.
