Next time you have a chance, hold a K&N up to the light and see the holes in the gauze letting light through. Then decide if you think it will stop particles from entering your engine. I know people use them, but i'm not a fan.

I put KN filters on three or four of my cars, then finally got smart, realized that I was just wasting my money, I don't care about an extra 5 hp .

Let's say that a K&N gives 5hp - that's a "best case scenario". That's a 1.09% increase in power.

According to this formula , a drop of 20*F (from 77* to 57*) nets a 1.02% increase in power.

In other words, the difference in air temperature between night and day where you live gives almost the exact same HP increase as a K&N.

So, if you can tell a difference between your HP at night and your HP during the day, then you might notice the HP increase from a K&N.

My car with the stock filter definatly runs better on a cool eve. over a hot summer day. But it also runs like a bat outa hell on a cold winters day.

Like others have said, Not much HP improvement, MAYBE 2-5HP on a dyno, BUT, When was the last time that YOU drove around at FULL THROTTLE? LITTLE or NO gain at part throttle AND You are NOT stopping all that dirt from getting into Your engine.

I have to look at these things a bit differently, which I think helps.

If you aren't changing ANYTHING but the filter... stock airbox, intake manifold, etc.. and ONLY the filter changes... the only way you'll see an increase in power is if you are flowing more air THROUGH this filter. This means the filter is not filtering as much, effectively giving you 2-5 HP by letting more particulates and silicates into your engine to do damage. Sounds awesome.

Isn't the K&N cheaper over time than using OEM filters though? I thought it was re-usable?

I think I bought the stock AC Delco filter for about $20. I changed it after 2 years. The K&N costs $56 dollars, so it'll take about 6 years to break even for me.

You can expect more dirt getting into your engine.
