Forgot to change the oil filter

I searched the forum with no results. I have a 2015 Camaro SS with 25k miles on it. My last oil change was at 19k miles about 10 mths ago with Mobil 1 5w30 oil and a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter. I just changed my oil yesterday with Mobil 1 oil, but forgot to put on a new filter. Do you think I'll be ok for another 3k-4k miles or should I change it asap....or what suggestions do you have?? Thanks

^^^this

In the future you should change your oil and filter at least once every 12 months no matter the mileage

To each his own but I just put 10,500 Miles in my F150 and 7,500 on my Camaro. I only have a V6 in my Camaro but the filter is good for 15,000. If you had run a Fram in it I would say change it but the filter media in a Mobil1 filter can withstand the extended mileage.

A filter would never have a longer interval than the oil. If filter not changed, xx percent of old oil left in...didn't really change all the oil.

On some applications... not passenger cars or trucks... the filter is changed more often than the oil. Such as fleet HD applications where oil life analysis testing is done showing the oil additive package has much life left beyond the filter change interval. But not the other way around.

If I were in the OPs shoes... I'd change the filter +1 qt, and shorten up the next change to 3k due to this one was botched and didn't really put in 100% new oil. The oil that is in there does not actually have 100% OLM life, due to old oil being mixed in.

So on my 2015 Camaro SS, I should be able to swap out the oil filter without all the oil pouring out?

A lot of oil will come out, but it should stop. Fill the new filter with oil before installing.

If you religiously change the oil on time and use a good oil, dont panic. If you have an abused engine and the oil comes out black and burnt smelling, change the filter.

For peace of mind, change the filter. Most filters can handle skipping an oil change or 2.

It's cheap insurance, if you are doing it yourself, just change it out and fill the car back up until it's where it needs to be on the dipstick.

What are you out? A little time, $35 for 5 qts, and a filter? Unless you still have leftover oil from the car needing 8.

Chalk it up to a lesson learned, and you won't make that mistake again.

I would just spend the time and twist the filter off, have the new one handy and twist it on to minimize spilling. Refill till dip stick says full, and done.
