3.73 Gears Installed on Manual V-6

It's been discussed that the M6 V-6 share the same rear-end as the V-8 however it seems difficult to get actual verification. In fact, I called Richmond themselves and they insisted that the V-6 rears are different, thus their different applications. Keep in mind that these are the same guys that said they built the 3.55 for the V-6 since thats what their research showed V-6's wanted. Well, after discussing with RHD and others I went ahead and ordered a set of 3.73 Richmond gears from Chase at Apex-Speed (awesome customer service) and am pleased to report that it does fit. So for you M6- V-6's we now have a lot of choice of gears.

As far as the drivability, I think the "up" grade is awesome. In fact, I hardly used to use the 6th gear on the freeway here as it was always lagging but now I can cruise in 6th and still feel the power. And yes, the seat of the pants increase in torque is great. I still have to get the speedo calibrated as it is approx. 10 miles off at 60 mph.

Hope this helps.

I was extremely excited when you emailed to tell me that they were in. Looks like things just got a lot more interesting for you V6 guys.

Thanks for the mention and positive feedback.

I know nothing of the difference in gears. In lamens terms, what benefit does the 3.73 gears have on the V6?

Changes the gearing of the car (obviously). Giving it more power on the low end, when you do this you sacrifice a little on the top in though. However 3.73's are a perfect balance IMO.

Torque! Upgrading the factory 3.27s to the 3.73s you will realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 15% or 40.95 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. This will make for some surprised Mustang owners.

5-8, depends on the shop. I've seen labor quotes as low as $250 and as high as $900. Usually its around $500.
