It's not over by far. If anything it's getting worse.

It's far from being over. I work in manufacturing. I keep watching people getting fired so they can bring in temp workers for $8.50 an hour. I will say our sales are great. But we make low cost household items.

Why are we calling what is clearly a depression a recession? We've been juggling vocabulary for a couple of years now. Before that, it was just an economic crisis. Is it possible that we've been in the crapper for years?

Maybe, this is not the norm, but the architecture firm I work at is currently looking to hire 3 people within the next month of 2 (our current staff is 15). Also, based on the financial presentation we just recieved, this is setting up to be the firms best year in its history after a substantial decrease last year.

It is far from over and will get alot worse since they are looking at dropping the USA's credit rating. There is now talk the USA could be in bankruptcy before the end of 2010. If that happens unemployment will top 30%.

Lets see, I've been out of work now for 10 months, applied for 20 different jobs, No Interviews on any of them.. two jobs were minimum wage jobs even.. There are just too many people applying for too few jobs...
In my opinion it is no better today than it was a year ago, it is even worse.

Around October or November 2008 we hit rock bottom. Merged our two offices and laid off about 8 people (out of about 40). 2009 was a really busy year. Had one major project and a ton of smaller projects going on keeping us busy. It was really the busiest I've been in years. So far things are just as busy this year and since the lay-off's I think we've expanded by about 2-4 employees. (lost track between people leaving and coming in). We do a lot of educational and healthcare work. Just finished up a huge new high school project and are currently doing a major hospital addition. I feel pretty safe with my job for the time being. Still doesn't seem like people are really spending a lot like they used to. Could have something to do with the credit crunch and banks stripping and cutting credit lines like nuts. |
