High performance SS could be

MotorTrend Sept. 2007 Issue, page 156 says:

"We've been watching for this one a long time now, but it should be worth the wait. The Global RWD architecture that underpins Chevy's reborn muscle machine is solid stuff, as will be a variety of V-8 and V-6 powertrains. The coupe arrives in early 2009, the convertible as a 2010 model, and a high-horse SS is expected, too"

It says there that a "high horse SS is expected". To me that means nothing, as they could have been watching blogs and forums like this one and got the popular opinion that the people want a Camaro SS with a crazy amount of power. OR the writer could have talked to a GM rep who said something along the lines of "you can't say that i said this but . . . "

I still say the Z28 should be the top dog.

look at your history the z28 started as the 302 HO for road racing, the SS was the big block/ high horsepower engine, IE SS396 etc

...just my 2 cents

There have been certain models in the past, where the Z28 was top. BUT, those were the model years when there was no SS.

Z28 is purely Camaro, but SS is just an added designation and an improvement IMO...hence the 4th gen's "Z28 SS". I think we could see one of those again.

Anything could happen, but I wouldn't count on Z28 being the Top-Dog Camaro.

I agree with the general distinction between the zeder's and the SS models in general. A Z-- package generally gives a better sports car performance. The SS was more for a muscle car performance. So top hp will typically be for the SS. which leads me to belive that the 'blue devil' corvette with be named SS and not Z07 or stingray

yeah, since Z06 is taken, I think the RPO will be Z07, but it will be designated something else.

Kinda like the SS's RPO is actually Z27 for the Camaro...

And that is why I said "could" be. I also thought this was useful because of all the talk of what/how many V-6 & V-8 options there will be and that is also mentioned. Just passing the info along. I never truely believe anything until it "comes straight from the horses mouth" or I see it first hand.

I am still hoping that the Z28 will be the more affordable V-8 option since that is what I plan on getting.

no worries, you were just quoting something else. And like you, I would rather have a z28 than an ss

Same here. I want a Z28 and won't be able to afford the 'Top Model'. So I also want the lineup to be V6 Coupe, Z28, SS. (With RS thrown in somewhere if they want.)

I just don't think 'SS' has the same feel to it as 'Z28'.

I can live with a corvette stingray, so long as they put on a stingray hood and a split rear window. THAT would be badass to see one of those on the streets. then to realize it has 650 hp giving it a power to weight close to or better thanan enzo. For 1/5 the price.
