What do you look for in a tuner/builder?
Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to read this. I was just wondering what you guys valued when looking for someone to build/work on your cars in terms of tuning/building and how much weight you put on each aspect?
For example, my list in order of importance: 1) Community reputation 2) Customer service 3) Value / price 4) Results (1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, etc) 5) Experience 6) Objectivity (Don't try to sell you parts you don't need or are sub-optimal) I'd really like to see how my list compares with you guys as a lot of you have been tuning cars a lot longer than I have, and have a lot more experience. Thanks!

If you are not a member of a car club, now might be a good time to join one. There are not that many tuners/builders in any given area, and the community will know who to trust, and who to avoid. The problem with the internet is that you will generally only get the disgruntled customers posting reviews.

Reputation among other tuners/builders is most important to me. It's not that hard to fool unknowing customers that you're an expert, but it's very difficult to fool industry experts and maintain a good relationship with competitors if you aren't top notch.

Go to the track and see what guys are actually out there racing
Talk to other car guys at meets/races/shows and see whats going on, internet is only the tip of the iceberg of info a lot of dirty laundry does not always get aired out
