What is this????

I ordered a new set of lug nuts that come with a key. While checking to make sure my current tire iron fits and trying to find a place to put the key I found this. It's a strap with a hook on each end and a buckle to lengthen or shorten it. It was wrapped up nicely with a rubber band around it in a pocket in the foam under the tire iron. Chevy obviously thought it was important enough to not only include it but also have a specific cavity to store it in. But what the hell is it used for? My thought is it's to somehow strap your full size tire in the trunk when the spare is on but I cannot figure out how it would be used. I bought my car used and do not have an owner's manual so I'm not sure if it says something in there. Can someone look through their manual to see if it's mentioned?

looks like the connection for a child seat. It is the part that connects on the hat rack in the back.

If it is part of some sort of car seat harness, why would it be included with the spare tire kit? I imagine 5th Gen's that don't have the spare tire do not have this harness. A safety feature for car seat would have to be included with every car I imagine.

I don't know honestly, I just know it looks just like the piece I had on a child's safety seat I once had (came with the seat not the car). It was even rolled up like you described but in a bag attached to the seat.

Did you buy the car brand new? My car doesn't have one, or at least I have not seen it but I got mine used so

I got it used and am the second owner. I assume it is from Chevy since it has a space molded into the foam for it. Can someone else with a spare tire package check if they have it in the foam under the tire iron?

Looks like it could be a tie down strap for a spare tire.

As you cannot put a full sized tire in the area for the spare, my guess is it's to secure the flat tire you take off from sliding around the trunk.
