Camaro v6 help!
Hi, I have a 2012 2lt 6spd v6 Camaro, I’m wondering what minor mods I can do to my Camaro to make it a little meaner? I’m going to put a cold air intake on. But wondering if I should use a chip or go for an exhaust next? Just want the car to be a little faster, not trying to go to the strip with it or anything
Any info helps! |

1) Chips are a gimmick, don't buy one 2) Get a good tune, Overkill is outstanding in tuning V6 Camaros
3) There a lot of exhausts out there (catback, axleback) wont add any noticeable HP but a chance to get a better sound 4) Changing rear end gears ( I think you have 3.27 //3.91 would be a lot better) are a significant upgrade in performance 5) Check out the Camaro 5th Gen V6 Facebook pages,,tons and tons of information there |

I don’t use Facebook which is why I’m posting here. Thanks for your info though!

There’s a ton of info here as well. Just research, search and then ask specific questions. Even though it’s a V6, you can make it do whatever your budget is limited to. But it’ll never be or sound like a V8.
The cai is a good start as well as 3.91 gears. I never did the gears but people swear by them. Will@overkill is the best V6 tuner. I think the suspension is a good area to focus on to compliment the little extra power you want. They make great road carving machines. I don’t believe in Facebook either. |

If I purchased the overkill tune with my car being stock would that hurt it? Or would it even make a difference

I’m not a tuner. Email will@overkill. But the point of a tune is that your adding upgrades or mods that the stock tune is not written for. I added mods before I even got a tune. But you can always email will with a new exhaust and he’ll retune. But if you just search through camaro5 will give you some good info. I even gave him my different tire diameter as you would with a different rearend gear ratio. It all plays a factor so it’s nice that he’s always willing to retune for you.

Free or does he charge a fee?

When I got the tune it was free. My first tune was for a few so I decided I would pay will instead of keep paying a fee from first tune, and my first tune didn’t tune for 80mm tb and corsa exhaust and will does data logging. So you can drive and datalog then email to him to analyze and tune according to what your engine is doing. I haven’t datalogged mine because I just found what I have as good for what I use it for, a fun driver.

Honestly, from everything I've read, you could say number 3 was a gimmick also. You can spend close to $1600 on a Corsa catback and in the companies own words gain six to seven HP. Yep, $400 per 1.5 HP and that's the over-inflated manufacturers numbers. You could probably go with a set of mufflers, gain that six to seven HP (if not company hype?) and save some bucks. Hey, maybe you get a free fuel line magnet to go with every purchase? And cats. Most factory cats unless really high miles or damaged can handle roughly a 20% increase with no flow issues but the words HIGH FLOW really make for good marketing. I'd jump on the intake side and forget the exhaust because dual 2.5" for 217 cubic inches is plenty unless you really dig the tractor sound.

I can say the exhaust was the last thing I did on my lfx. I didn’t spend $1600 though and not even close to that. Was it worth it? At the time I was going to go all the way to supercharger so it made sense. I stopped short and it doesn’t sound like a tractor nor does it sound like my Z28. I’d do just as the previous poster mentioned as I feel the exhaust, other than mufflers, are plenty capable.

Your best bet is... sit back and enjoy the car!

Got to agree with the Deputy. To get serious meanness out of the V6 you'll need to spend some good coin. Reliability may suffer as engine could develop a case of "tinkeritis". Maybe as components wear out improve wheels/tires and suspension. Otherwise enjoy as is. My 2LS hauls ass for a heavy car with small engine. I bet the man trans cars really scoot.
