Cam Install and a Melling Oil pump?

so... I've been pulling some pricing on a full cam install with all the supporting mods and i've now had 2 installers recommend sticking with my stock oil pump over the Melling. Is this legit or ??

here are his exact words

"I highly recommend keeping the factory oil pump on the car, the Melling unit is not going to improve performance and in a few cases we have seen the oil pressure too high on them(60-70psi at idle)"

Go with the melling. Excellent pump and with it all torn down for the cam now is the time to do it.

If they do the job right a new oil pump isn't needed. I kept the stock pump in mine and my oil pressure never drops under 30

I put the Melling in mine and have had NO issues and the slightly higher pressure is welcome at the higher RPM's and oil temp. You might also consider the LS3 stock pump has been known to have problems with a sticking relief valve that has caused more tan one person on here to replace an engine. Since you are doing a cam install, your engine warranty will be out the window if the stock pump lets go. For that reason alone, I would put the Melling in.

Ted Jannetty told me to stick with the stock pump. His philosophy was that if it isn't broken, why fix it?

Isn't broke yet!!!!

I did tons of research on this issue and decided to step up to the quality of Melling.
It's really worth the piece of mind too. Just my 2 cents...........
At the end of the day you're the one that has to take the risk.

I just recently had Cam install done by a performance shop that does a lot of this kind of mod. I asked him several times about changing the oil pump, and He told me that the stock oil pump was as good or better than anything out there. I stayed with stock, and have had no problems.

Look at me! 2010SS early build, stock pump seized, shredded the motor in a matter of seconds! In the works to be rebuilt, well it's rebuilt just waiting on the install! Price, $9500!!!!! All new internals, forged of course! But I didn't listen to my shop and said the stock pump will be fine! Getting the melling pump this time!

But really I believe the problem was with the early 2010's! I would go with the Katec timing chain also!
