Backup cameras--Terrain/Equinox mirror?

I've done some searches and found a few threads, but not too many. I know there are universal options that include either a free-standing display or ones with a clip-on for the rearview mirror. I've also seen the threads with the replacement rearview mirror with built-in GPS and monitor for the camera, but these require a custom setup to handle the OnStar buttons.

My mom has a 2010 GMC Terrain and it has both OnStar and a built-in backup camera with display inside the rearview mirror. Since this is the same year car and likely has the same OnStar setup, I would think the mirror could be used with our Camaros. Has anyone looked into this? Then you could use whatever camera you wanted to route to the display.

Any thoughts?

Rob

Scotty--can you (or your parts guy) look up the part number and price for just the mirror? I guess that info would be a good starting point for seeing if this is a do-able project. Thanks.

Bump....

I would be interested in this mod as well.... It appears that I didnt get any backup sensors in mine since it was an early order, and would prefer a camera anyways.

I was thinking of putting the video on the backdeck but havent figured a good way to integrate it... this would be a superior option IMHO.

Well here are the schematics from a 2010 Equinox. It will kinda give you an idea.

You can actually get that mirror in the Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, and HHR. I'm sure there is a way to do it, but the part won't show under the Camaro accessories page because it's not a "Camaro" piece.

Any status on this...was about to order one for the traverse (mirror and backup cam) but don't wont to do it if it's not going to work. The parts guy said he had no idea if it would work...so I would be going out on a limb if I did it.

I think the schematics that you posted make it clear that there needs to be some software integration on the level of the CAN or something like that for the OEM to work... aftermarket is going to be the best bet it seems.
