HELP: HEADERS SIZE
I currently have a Vortech SC VS3 kit installed on my SS L99 Automatic with pre-programmed tune.
Car currently puts out 480 rwhp. I need more power so I went back to company who installed it and he recommend the following: KOOKS - 1 3/4" long tube headers, x-pipe w/cats, catback exhaust system vortech fuel pump voltage booster belt and pulleys and a custom tune. He said that if I go with larger headers (1 7/8" or 2") that I will actually lose power, since I'm not putting out 1000hp Need some feedback and recommendations please! I also agree, all you need is 1 3/4". If ya raced it at the track all the time then maybe 1 7/8"

I don't believe that you would lose any power with the 1 7/8" headers. I would add 1 7/8" headers and an under drive pulley, with a custom tune.

1 7/8" all the way. you will not lose power. if anything it should breathe a little better.

1 7/8ths seems to be the norm for most blown cars... at the 500+ range.
I would not go any bigger than 1 7/8ths.

I agree however ADM just installed 2inch headers with a large Cam along with a TVS2300 maggy and they brought out 625 hp and I heard Any myself tell the owner " firefighter1 " Just wait there is much more Hp in this car I would say 1 7/8 unless you have a real monster then I would go 2inch |

You don't "need" the 1 7/8". You may want them. Not to sound like a d**k here but I have one of the few and one of the first 10 second 5th gen camaros and yes it has 1 3/4" Kooks on it. At the time I put them on I wasn't planning on modding the car so much. So they stayed on the car and haven't been a hinderance. I asked Jannetty, the car builder, if I should change them out and he has told me NO. Now, if I was to do it all over again, I would CHOOSE the 1 7/8". They seem like the best all around choice.

Since Jannetty was mentioned, here is some test numbers he ran a while back along with his comments. Forced induction only reinforces what this testing showed. Quote:

You will be leaving a lot left on the table with 1 3/4. The guys might be thinking about gen i/gen ii motors. I would atleast go with 1 7/8. If you plan on modding more.. maybe even 2". I wouldnt dream of putting 1 3/4 on it though.

I just went through this. I went with 1 7/8" headers (thanks, danhr). Those will leave you some room to increase your hp later if you decide you want a Maggie or a cam (or both). I didn't want to limit myself by going with 1 3/4".

Both 1 3/4 or 1 7/8" would perform basically the same in that application. I would run 1 7/8" just to have room to grow.
