Motor Trend Bashing Camaro???
I've been a reader of Motor Trend magazine for so many years, it's embarrassing. But, for the past year, MT seems to be operating a vendeta against the Camaro for one but Chevrolet in general. The subjective MT comments in the most recent retest of the Camaro V6 against the other mainstays, Mustang, Challenger and the Korean car, seem to bash the Camaro beyond reason for it's short comings and make excuses for the competitor's failings. In one of the comparisons, the ZR1 world class supercar, came in last place because of the quality of their seats, despite drastically outperforming the competition. Just wondered if anyone else feels the same way.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. They were having an absolute drooling love-fest over the Mustang GT. Both cars are on par with one another. It's not like they are comparing a Lambo with a Prius. I would imagine that some money or favors change hands somewhere---the magazines are great marketing tools that can lure in people who don't know any better.

Just remember when the 5th gen first came out they were praising it. Same with the zr1. All mags are the same, any new car that comes out is the best car yet.
Only mags I read are GM high tech.

So don't read it. If you want constant praise for the car you drive you should buy "Camaro Now" or "Super Chevy". Motor Trend has some valid points

This is one reason why the 5.0 owners think they have an untouchable car.... and how they all run in the 11's with DR.

I gave up reading "ROT & TRENCH" years ago. They were writing nothing but bad things about many American made cars. Got tired of their bull.

I read the article yesterday. It was basically 7-8 paragraphs of Camaro bashing. They especially didn't like the Camaro's interior setup/functionality and its ability to handle grocery store parking lots.
Here's the 1/4 mile times and as tested prices. Hyundai 3.8 - 14.2 @ 100.4 mph ($33,190) V6 Camaro - 14.5 @ 98.2 mph ($27,545) V6 Mustang - 14.5 @ 97.3 mph ($30,060) Dodge Challenger - 14.8 @ 94.8 mph ($32,595) Yet, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500hd WINS their 2011 Truck of the Year. |

I thought the review they did on the convertible was pretty positive. I guess Chevy paid them off for that one?

I guess objective reporting these days is hard to find. It's one thing when writers state good facts about a bike, car, etc. It's another when they slobber all over something putting everything else down or they slant the test to make one choice stand out. Tests are often slanted to go in the direction of a particular product's strength. That ends up being an article that is 10% fact and 90% opinion trying to draw a bunch of subjective points reinforcing why they liked product A over product B.
For example, if I want to write a glowing test of the Suzuki Hayabusa or Yamaha V-Max I would slant the test to be about 1/4 times and cult following. If I want to tout a Duck 1098 I would focus on handling and braking. It all depends on "what" is being tested. |
