Jammed seat back release.

OK, so I have the TBS for this problem and have lubed the release mechanisms with the recommended dry lube. That worked for a while, but now both seat backs on my 2010 are jammed again.

Has anyone found a long term fix other than repeatedly taking the upholstery off and spraying copious amounts of dry lube in the general direction of the release mechanism?

I didn't know that this was a thing. How long did you have your car before this problem occurred?

The problem occurred for the first time when the car was maybe only 3 years old. It happened on the passenger side. Eventually I found a TSB and lubricated the seat back release after removing the upholstery. This TSB was often discussed early in Gen5, BTW.

A few years later, the driver side release stopped working but I didn't care because it was easy to use the passenger side only to access the rear seat. No one ever sits there; access is for cleaning and cargo only.

Now, in late 2022, the passenger side is jammed again, so I'm wondering whether anyone has found a mod that works better than just lubricating the obviously ill-designed mechanism.

Mine gets in a bind and hard to pull sometimes. When that happens I just wiggle the back of the seat back and forth and it works. It's like it's not actually jammed, just in a bind and you have to release the tension so it can move freely.

^^^ Same with mine on the drivers side once in a while. I just wiggle it or give the seat back a good whack towards the rear and it works just fine and lets go.

The wiggle and whack worked for a while but now both seat backs are stuck good.

Of course, power reclining gets you to the same place, but it takes forever.

I just hold the handle up and give the seat a shove backwards and it releases.

15 years for my '10SS. No big deal.
