My exhaust adventure
My adventure began about 4 months ago when I ordered the Kook's complete exhaust system with 1 7/8" headers and 3" pipes. After waiting 4 weeks and still receiving no word on a shipping date from Kooks, I switched to the equivalent system from JBA.
The JBA headers and 3" competition exhaust bolted right up and boy did it sound good, but it was loud! My wife refused to ride in it because it was so loud! Outside the car I've never heard a better sounding exhaust, period. But inside, the overall loudness and the drone at 1800-2000 rpm under light load was brain splitting. So, I found a thread here about the Helmholtz resonator pipe to address the drone problem. I took the car to a muffler shop and had the pipes installed and I'll be damned if it didn't work, the drone was 95% gone. The thing I didn't like is that the pipes added about 10lbs of weight to an already heavy 3" exhaust system. Also, the car was still too loud or the wife Having read up on Corsa's drone canceling technology, I decided to replace the JBA cat back with Corsa's cat back. Last week I ordered the Corsa from Maryland Speed (their prices are good and free shipping made them better). Well, tonight I installed the Corsa system and when I first started the car I hated the sound. Compared to the JBA system at idle, it sounded metallic and raspy whereas the JBA was deep and throaty. But, I took it out for a drive and could not believe how quiet the Corsa system is inside the car and it's 100% drone free, even with headers. I was shocked at how loud the Corsa gets when you get on it. It sounds good at WOT, but tame otherwise which is what I was looking for. Also, the tips on the Corsa are works of art. They are angled to match the contour of the Camaro rear bumper/diffuser panel. I'm not knocking the JBA system either, I still love it's sound, but it was just too loud for my wife or kids to enjoy riding in the car. For single guys without those worries I'm sure you'll like the JBA system. So anyway, my exhaust adventure is over...finally! |

Amen brother. I went from a couple different axle-backs until I finally landed on Corsa cat-back. Unreal. It sounds phenomenal at WOT but is nice and quiet at cruising which is exactly what I wanted.
The good thing is, as you break the Corsa in, it gets more and more aggressive. I am sure it sounds awesome with headers! BTW, get your AFM tuned out. You WON'T regret it! |

Other companies don't do it because I doubt they actually do much actual design on their systems. Even Borla, who claims to do all kinds of R&D has serious drone problems with some of their systems. Their R&D focus has been on exterior sound primarily I guess. |

My car has a Supercharger,Kooks LT headers,Cam,CAI,Corsa Catback,etc.....
I listed that to say the Corsa is drone free cruising and sounds like a race car when you get into it...... I have been very happy with mine..... |
